This is a hybrid job that performs two functions.  One is a Courier that picks up test samples and supply request forms and/or delivers supplies, reports on a specified route following established sequence and schedule. Follows established procedures in the preparation and transport of specimens. Prepares laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations before laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas.

The second job functions as Specimen, which is a courier that picks up and prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations, such as staging specimens, centrifuge, separating serum, and blood smears. Data entry for test requisition information may be performed.  Aliquots sample for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens.

Hours Tuesday - Saturday 1:00 pm -9:30 pm

Skill Requirements

Administrative: Answer telephones, maintain logs/records, have organizational skills, be proficient with numbers, research information, manage time, train employees, use computerized databases, and communicate in written and verbal form.

Machine: Calculator, personal computer.

Physical Demands: Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one’s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling, holding, grasping, and possibly casual to the regular lifting of up to 50 pounds.   Must comply with applicable safety procedures. Additional job duty (as assigned):  (Hazardous Chemical Waste Management) Proper identification of known hazardous material in the workplace.  The knowledge of personal protection measures.  The avoidance of accidents.  The knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulation limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, and container and storage inspection.

License/Certification/Education: Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a Valid Driver’s License.
