  Job Summary  

We are seeking an Associate Scientist or Scientist for our Surgery (Biomechanics) department at our Safety Assessment site located in Mattawan, MI.

 

An Associate Scientist, Biomechanics in the Surgery and Efficacy group is responsible for: operating, maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and validating biomechanical testing equipment, micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT), Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and other associated modalities/equipment in accordance with all applicable guidelines/requirements outlined in regulatory documentation, protocols or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The Associate Scientist, Biomechanics will also be responsible for: developing and validating methods to evaluate material properties of medical devices and physiological tissues; analyzing, interpreting, designing and writing reports, and archiving data; and training personnel. Job Qualifications

  Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., biology, physiology, animal science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering) with 3 or more years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., biology, physiology, animal science, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering) with 7 or more years of relevant experience. Additional factors for consideration include, but are not limited to: publications/presentations; continuing education credits; professional society memberships/positions (i.e., committees, education boards, etc.); certifications; and showing good scientific judgment. High level of knowledge of pre-clinical research and associated models. Demonstrated knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of basic equipment, as well as, most of the more specialized equipment related to biomechanics, imaging, and tissue preparation. Demonstrated ability to independently solve problems and learn quickly. Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Computer Skills, commensurate with Essential Functions and including ability to learn a validated system. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization. Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts, on-call, sometimes on short notice. Ability to work under specific time constraints.
