Job Summary

We are seeking an Associate Operations Manager for our Insourcing Solutions Department based in Wilmington, MA.

In the Associate Operations Manager role, you can do that by providing operations management support to IS clients including supervisory, technical, administrative, caretaking or cagewash duties.  

What you will do!

Responsibilities range from technical duties for multiple species including breeding colony management, bacteriology, inoculations, pre- and post-operative surgical care to general animal health, health surveillance and husbandry. Maintain performance levels consistent with and according to company standards. Species may include rodents, aquatics, non-human primates, and other various large animals.

You may also be tasked with the following:

•    Act as corporate liaison to designated contract business clients to assess contract performance, including meeting/exceeding standards with respect to animal health and welfare, facilities condition, sanitation levels and facility security.  Report findings to IS management with recommendations for improvements. •    Serve as temporary backfill for Project Managers during leaves of absence, vacations, key personnel vacancies or new contract startups.  •    Work with Operations Management and HR staff to investigate personnel problems and assist in developing performance improvement plans, provide counseling and disciplinary actions to employees in accordance with company policies and procedures.   •    Generate and submit internal and external reports. Prepare and submit required written records, charts, logs and inventories as requested by supervisor and/or client.   •    Be able to act as a back up to monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations and animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, recording animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. •    Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas. •    Provide guidance to employees in the performance of technical support and husbandry responsibilities including but not limited to: animal handling and restraint, animal identification (ear tagging, ear punch, tattooing), breeding colony management of rodents (sexing and weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, plug checks), blood and tissue collection and processing, injections (IP, IM, SQ, IV), medical treatments as directed, clinical observations, and assist with research procedures as directed.  •    Assist with Operations Managerial activities and functions including but not limited to: training, QA, onsite supervisory oversight of facility operations and personnel, and deliverable report preparation. •    Maintain accurate records and database management: of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by site and regulations.  •    Receive, inspect and put away incoming animals and complete related receiving duties. Assist with receipt, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories. •    Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances.

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses a HS/GED required; Associates Degree or Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science, Biology or Life Sciences or related field preferred. AALAS certification at the LAT level required. Three to five years of experience in multiple species animal care and handling, with demonstrated experience in providing technical skills support. Supervisory experience preferred, successful performance in a non-supervisory leadership role required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay range for this position is $105,000-$108,000 USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certification, and location.
