The Senior Accountant - LSG Controllership position will support the division controllership function within the Life Sciences Group (LSG) of Thermo Fisher Scientific (division revenues exceeding $2.5 billion). The controllership function ensures the accurate and timely reporting of all LSG global entities.

A day in the Life:

•              We support the monthly closing of accounting ledgers and the review of key LSG North America accounting processes

•              Analytical review of the monthly financial results of the LSG business

•              Technical accounting research of issues to ensure accurate accounting treatment

•              Provide guidance on large or technical transactions

•              Serve as a site accounting resource for questions on accounting or compliance related topics. In addition, support the LSG Controller as the liaison between site controllership and Technical Accounting, including the drafting and submission of technical waivers and memos surrounding reserves, exemptions, or key areas of judgment.

•              We provide oversight of the work completed by local accounting teams supporting the LSG Costa Rica Accounting Shared Service Center (GBS)

•              Support the coordination of the annual financial audit process performed by both the internal and external independent auditors

•              Ensure that LSG accounting functions are being performed as stated in company procedures, financial close schedule, and in accordance with US GAAP and SOX

•              Regular training of site controllers on corporate policies, accounting policy, accounting newsletter topics, and the Divisional Approval Authority Matrix

•              Identify and drive operational improvement initiatives

Keys to Success - Education, Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting/finance experience
  • Experience completing a financial month-end close in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining a strong control environment
  • Prior experience working with financial software such as JD Edwards E1, SAP, Hyperion Financial Management or Hyperion Enterprise and Blackline

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Possess knowledge of U.S. GAAP including experience with revenue recognition and fixed asset accounting
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Can work in a large, international organization and successfully work cross-functionally with a diverse group of individuals and teams
  • An eye toward continuous improvement Designation or accounting qualification is desired
  • Managerial experience, formally or informally, leading a small team is desired

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $103,100.00–$125,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
