Senior Director Therapeutic Area, Oncology/Haematology

This role provides deep strategic, therapeutic and drug development expertise to external customers and to internal stakeholders providing them with bespoke asset-centric solutions. This is a consultative/advisory position which includes assisting clients in data interpretation, designing protocols, or developing integrated drug development solutions. The role entails working directly with senior stakeholders (CEO, CMO, TA head etc) within customer organizations, often as the sole ICON representative and frequently in a pre-selling environment. This role may be the first technical point of contact between ICON and the customer.

 Take a leadership role for all areas of strategic, therapeutic and drug development program design within a defined clinical area or areas, providing customers with bespoke, asset-centric solutions, working in collaboration with other members of the Drug Development and Consulting team as well as other expert groups within ICON.

Take ownership of protocol development, review and evaluation.

Develop and maintain key relationships with key opinion leaders, Advisory Boards and regulatory bodies in their relevant field, to help grow ICON’s business.

Provide input and expert advice into new services and help to drive growth in key therapeutic areas.

Develop and provide guidance and training, within a defined therapeutic field of expertise, to internal and external clients.

Support and participate in portfolio and therapeutic area reviews and, as required, participate in project oversight or governance roles.

Play a key role in building and maintaining client relationships, including attendance at professional and scientific meetings, with the goal of promoting ICON’s scientific and clinical excellence

Act as the strategic and scientific focal point for the proposal process and for bid defense activities.

Provide strategic direction to the project teams and be the therapeutic drug development expert for other departments within ICON

Support the operational team in investigator meetings (as required) and all scientific and therapeutic questions related to the projects.

Travel (approximately 40%) domestic and/or international.

Undertake other reasonably related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Experience

MD with board certification in medical Oncology and/or hematology with at least 5 years clinical and academic experience – candidates with expertise or even board certifications in nuclear medicine, radiation-oncology or similar therapeutic areas would also be considered.

Minimum 3 years in pharmaceutical industry with experience in clinical drug development.

A good understanding of approved and marketed treatments in oncology and hematology

Understanding of the competitive development landscape in the main areas of oncology and hematology including modern immuno-oncology assets like antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) cell-and gene therapy (CGT).

Strong communication skills as this is a client facing role.
