The work schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Job Description                                        

  • Performs routine cytogenetic tests and molecular cytogenetics tests independently with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develops new testing procedures.
  • Perform FISH and Chromosomes analysis.
  • Provides technical expertise to technologists.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities assigned for a cytogenetics technologist.
  • Performs all types of cytogenetics tests established in the lab.
  • Develops new cytogenetic procedures.
  • Provides technical expertise in troubleshooting.
  • Monitors the performance of the equipment.
  • Maintains adequate levels of inventory of supplies for their working areas.
  • Provides expertise in technical troubleshooting.
  • Participates in reviewing and revising lab manual.
  • Assists the team leader/supervisor in preparation of the lab for safety inspections, and laboratory surveys for licensing                                
  • Alerts the team leader/general supervisor for unusual events or unexpected results.
  • Communicates with team leader/supervisor when having unusual test results or technical /clinical concerns.
  • Seeks advice from team leader/supervisor when uncertain with test procedures or results.
  • Attends staff meeting regularly.
  • Participates in continuing education programs and AGT meetings.
  • Contributes to cytogenetics technology training program, residents, and ABMG trainees. 
  • Displays professional behavior and takes responsibility for professional acts.
  • Practices safe work procedures.
  • Applies the laws and regulations governing medical laboratory.
  • Maintains and improves skills and knowledge.
  • Recognizes and shows respect for the patient, clients, staff, and other medical professionals.
  • Protects patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Able to assess strengths and weaknesses and to establish goals for self- development.
  • Highly competent with all aspects of Cytogentetic Technologies.
  • Accuracy/attention to detail.
  • Legibility and documentation skills.
  • Physically able to perform duties in work area
  • Proficient in microscopic and computerized imaging analysis.
  • Works independently.
  • Tolerance to high stress level.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and adaptable to change.
  • Good computer skills (windows based programs) and excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Backup duty in wet lab.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical and/or medical sciences from   an accredited college or university or an equivalent to the above degree.
  • Certified by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp-CG).
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure by the State of Florida as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a Technologist in Cytogenetics.
