Position Summary:

This combined role of Field Application Service (FAS) and Field Service Engineering (FSE) within Thermo Fisher Scientific's Microbiology Division requires an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills, technical proficiency in diagnostic laboratory equipment service, and a proactive, customer-focused approach. The role involves conducting Microbiology educational talks and training programs, facilitating pre-sales and post-sales support, addressing technical issues, and collaborating closely with the Sales team to achieve corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Field Application Service (80%):

  • Play a significant role when introducing and supporting new products and applications.
  • Develop and deliver Microbiology educational talks, product demonstrations & training programs tailored to diverse markets.
  • Provide independently on-site and remote scientific application support & training support on products
  • Collaborate with Sales to provide workflow and analytical validation-related customer support.
  • Assist customers with the implementation, optimization, and troubleshooting of microbiology workflows.
  • Assist sales teams with technical inquiries, tender preparation, and product development projects.
  • Conduct on-site visits, remote support, and training sessions to ensure effective use of our products
  • Prepare and present seminars to wide array of audiences
  • Prepare regular reports and updates for management on customer activity, trends, and feedback to Regional Field Application Support Manager and Sales Manager.

Field Service Engineering Support (20%):
  • Manage field service support inquiries, providing technical and application consultation.
  • Offer field service support, including installation, preventive maintenance, and resolving breakdown calls.
  • Plan and conduct field service training and lead all aspects of service resource management.
  • Monitor and document technical inquiries, complete field service reports, and update service calls in SFDC.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Stay informed about scientific and industry trends, reporting relevant insights to the team.
  • Participate in inter-departmental projects and support Sales meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure effective booth design and messaging at industry conferences and events.
  • Building cross-functional relationships with Sales, Production, Regulatory and Marketing Leadership
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific field.
  • 2+ years hands-on lab experience in handling microbiology workflows within the food, pharmaceutical, or clinical sectors.
  • Familiarity with molecular techniques and tools such as qPCR would be advantageous
  • Experience as a Field Application Specialist or Technical Service Specialist in microbiology-related fields would be favorable.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities, with experience in field work and knowledge of analytical measurement equipment in an IVD or regulated environment.

  • Proficient with MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Open to lab personnel transitioning into a field application role.

Travel:
  • Flexibility to travel throughout area of responsibility (50% of the time).
  • Willingness to travel across the country to support customers.
  • Possess valid driving license.
