Position Summary:

The candidate will support the design and testing of refrigeration equipment in the Asheville Technology Center laboratory. Specific responsibilities include coordinating the execution of verification testing, ensuring all lab equipment is well maintained and repaired, and leading the daily activities of the test technicians. This person will also work closely with and establish trust with personnel across all departments and functions within the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist engineering teams by completing performance and regulatory agency testing, per applicable standards and procedures in a prioritized fashion.
  • Listens to, supports, and encourages a staff of skilled test and electrical technicians to achieve excellent results. Mentors associates to improve their skill sets and overall effectiveness. Conducts training for team members.
  • Oversee 10 walk-in thermal chambers for testing of refrigerators and freezers as well as a variety of other equipment. Must be able to read electrical diagrams and understand manuals for operation and troubleshooting. Have familiarity with Data Acquisition Systems.
  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory facilities, tools and test equipment through 5S to provide a clean, well-organized and efficient level of operation. Automate processes where possible to improve data acquisition, data reporting and testing procedures

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with thermal testing equipment. Higher level education (AS, BS, BA) in the related fields is preferred and can be substituted for experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a people leader.
  • A basic knowledge of electrical/mechanical principles is required. Knowledge of refrigeration principles is preferred. Reading and understanding electrical and refrigeration schematics is required.
  • Proficiency in use of PC based data systems and standard desktop applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Also able to learn and adapt to site-specific software applications.
  • Must have excellent motivation and good judgment to perform a wide range of tasks. Must be flexible to new procedures and/or revisions.
  • Working conditions require sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, and working at a computer station and on manufacturing shop floor.
  • Ability to work in test rooms with elevated temperature and humidity.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 30 lbs; occasionally lift 50 lbs in tandem.
  • Understands people are core to successful operations. Always treats others with respect and has demonstrated the ability to train others using SOE work instruction methods.
