Job Description

Job Title: Electro-Mechanical Assembler

Reports To: Manufacturing Manager

Day/Shift (if applicable): day

FLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt):  Non-Exempt

Core Duties and Responsibilities: The assembly technician at Thermo Fisher Scientific in Tewksbury, MA is responsible for the assembly of electro-mechanical subassemblies. This includes performing all manufacturing tasks related to the assembly of electrical and/or mechanical assemblies, such as point-to-point wiring, soldering, and kitting. The technician must have the ability to distinguish colors of different wire insulation, work with fume-emitting items, occasionally handle components containing mercury, and be capable of kitting parts and lifting items weighing up to 25 lbs.

Competencies:

  • Understand and apply formal problem-solving tools.

  • Comfortable engaging at all levels of the organization and being independent and self-initiating.

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).

  • Capable of working in a team environment.

  • Comfortable using Windows-based software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Flexible and willing to expand into other areas as business requirements dictate.

Education:High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience Requirements:

  • Required: +1 year of work experience in a manufacturing, operations, production, lab setting or related field

  • Preferred: Prior experience with electro-mechanical assembly

  • Preferred: Soldering electronic components on printed circuit boards

  • Preferred: Strong computer skills: - MS Word, MS Excel

Work Environment: The work environment may expose the employee to the risk of electrical shock and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet.

Physical Demands: The physical demands include occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee frequently needs to reach with hands and arms, and occasionally stand and walk.
