Our global Clinical Operations colleagues within our PPD® clinical research services provide end-to-end support for clinical trials from study start up to monitoring through to study close out, across commercial and government contracts. Together, we help clients define and develop clinical programs, minimize delays, and execute high-quality, cost-efficient clinical studies.

Position Summary:This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated privacy professional to join us in the role of Senior Privacy Officer/Specialist. This role is a key member of the Global Privacy Office advising the organization on privacy matters and developing creative and pragmatic solutions to enable the business to grow and develop in its innovative use of data. The ideal candidate will have proven experience working with global privacy laws, regulations, and standards, and will be able to navigate sophisticated issues and provide practical advice to a variety of business partners.

Discover Impactful Work:The primary responsibility of the Senior Privacy Specialist role is to help ensure the organization remains aligned with privacy and data protection laws around the world. You must have the capacity to take ownership of multiple projects and work independently, but also be confident to raise concerns where appropriate. As such, you will:

  • Provide guidance to the business on global data protection laws, regulations, and standards to help ensure compliance across the organization
  • Recognize privacy-related issues while conducting assessments and identify creative and compliant solutions to enable the Thermo Fisher Scientific business to grow and develop its use of data
  • Work closely with other members of the Privacy team to provide consistent and cohesive advice to the business
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional colleagues including Legal, IT, Information Security and Data Retention to ensure the Privacy is integrated into business processes and systems
  • Educate and train employees on data protection and privacy policies and procedures
  • Communicate directly with clients where they have questions about our Privacy Program
  • Continue learning about changes to the global privacy landscape and advise on their impact on the business.

Education and Knowledge:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent required
  • IAPP (CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) qualifications desirable
  • Proficient in business English
  • 5-7 years professional experience
  • In some cases, an equivalency consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Experience:

  • Excellent working knowledge of applying global privacy laws, regulations, standards in the context of a large multinational company
  • Proven track record of demonstrating the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience conducting DPIAs and TIAs on new technologies
  • Willingness to quickly adapt to using a Privacy Management tool to conduct daily activities
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate sophisticated legal issues and trainings to business colleagues
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to create and maintain positive working relationships within a large and complex environment
  • Comfortable collaborating with IT and Risk colleagues including Information Security professionals as part of due diligence processes
  • An understanding of how privacy fits in to the product development lifecycle, privacy by design controls, and ability to effectively partner cross-functionally to develop and influence sound strategies

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in North Carolina is $107,900.00–$150,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
