In return, we’ll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about. Job Summary We are seeking an Animal Welfar Specialist for our Safety Assessment Site in Ashland, OH.

BASIC SUMMARY

Support and improve the animal welfare according to the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•    Monitoring, investigating and reporting of animal welfare incidents

•    Remain confidential when investigating and reporting animal welfare incident  

•    Use of internal software for tracking animal welfare events

•    Prepare, maintain and analyze of various key performance indicators related to animal welfare

•    Lead or assist various meetings concerning animal welfare, including a monthly meeting with the Animal Welfare Team to review monthly events and alerts

•    Verify and analyze some technical functions to maintain or improve the quality.

•    Establish a proactive culture by being active in observing the techniques and equipment used in the daily activities of the animal facility.

•    Ensure that technical personnel wear appropriate protective equipment to ensure their safety and the safety of the animals.

•    Identify and analyze incidents types or potential problems and assist the appropriate personnel in establishing and implementing the appropriate solutions. 

•    Be responsible for the New Hire onboarding animal welfare training, the 30-60 day Humane Care Imperative (HCI) training and the Annual HCI refresher training

•    Overseeing usage and size of the spares and training colonies 

•    Participate in continuous improvement projects in connection with animal welfare.

•    Participate in technical training activities when required for operational needs

•    Ensure the integrity of the studies and fulfill the regulatory agencies requirements by performing the activities according to the Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) rules.

•    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Education: Associate (A.S.) or  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Animal Science or related discipline.

•    Experience:  2-5 years related technical experience

•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

•    Certification/Licensure:  LAT or  LATG certification preferred
