Thermo Fisher Scientific acquired FEI Company in September of 2016 as part of the Analytical Instruments Group (AIG) in the newly formed Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD).

The role

Within the global Transmission Electron Microscope R&D organization, you find 4 different Program Portfolio Groups.These groups are defining the breakthrough innovation strategy with their marketing counterparts and with the R&D Technology Manager. 

Together, we build a strong roadmap that delivers business growth and value to our customers. The in-depth understanding of our customers’ needs and securing the intellectual property leadership role of our company are two pillars to consider.Translating the roadmap into projects and delivering them on time, within budget and on quality is one of the main responsibilities. 

The team is also delivering Non-Standard Customer Requests (NSR) and driving resolution for all product related issues in the market.

 As Portfolio Manager for the Semiconductor related TEM R&D activities, you are a crucial part of the hard-working and motivated multidisciplinary Global TEM Solutions Management Team. 

You own the Business Unit Specific products’ program from initiation towards introduction in the factory and release to the field.

You steer the Product Vitality that delivers the growth of the business.

The Product vitality should ensure a multiplier factor of 10 from development investment into revenue. 

You lead by example the Program execution Managers, and the Project Leaders. They deliver the full set of programs and projects for the business portfolio. 

These projects are set up according to cross-functional matrix organizations, dispersed locations worldwide, and with regular external partnership. 

You are responsible for owning the oversight, optimizing, and supervising the output of multiple programs running in the portfolio (4+ large programs, 30+ projects, multiple NSRs, typically 30-40MUSD of annual budget). 

As the motivated leader of the R&D activity, you represent the customer and the business line for your portfolio. Your decisions on programming priorities, or solutions directions, will have direct business impact and customers’ satisfaction. 

Your challenge is to build an innovative technologically sophisticated customer solution, meeting the needs of all your partners and key internal customers (up to VP levels), combining short-term goals (1-2 years) with long-term needs (5-10 years). 

This manager will report directly to the TEM solutions Manager and be the functional manager of Program execution Managers and NSR program managers.              

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • Preferably, requires a MSc Degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field.

  • Typically, requires 20+ years (preferred) of work experience, of which you have worked in an R&D environment.

  • Consistent track record to lead sophisticated engineering project teams through a defined (or not) product management process.

  • Capable of motivating the teams to come to outstanding results even with tight deadlines.

  • Able to craft, build and lead multiple sophisticated projects and/or lead a group of project leads.

  • Ability to run and assign specific duties and build a constructive and cooperative working relationship.

  • Ability to build consensus among key internal customers (up to Divisional leadership) that may not be under your management control, who might have both shared and divergent interests.

  • Strong upwards and downwards communication ability is required due to the cross-functional nature of this role. The ability to lead communication in sophisticated technical settings to a variety of audiences is very important in this role.

  • Seen as the guide on processes and strategy.

  • Able to drive the business with excellent discernment.
