Position Summary:

The R2R team for the EMEA Region is a successful team responsible for the timely delivery of standardized financial processes on behalf of Thermo Fisher Finance and their business partners within the Commercial and Manufacturing operations. The group performs general accounting and reporting activities from the regionally centralized location.

The colleagues in the team are being accountable for conducting key general accounting activities such as Month End and Quarter End close, Intercompany, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, Account Reconciliations and General Ledger for the Europe region. The objective of this position is to enable GBS to meet their business expectations by providing quality accounting and financial analysis and overall business support for the Center Leadership and local division/country colleagues, as well as working closely with the R2R teams at other GBS sites (Paisley and Costa Rica).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control activities related to General Accounting (GA) processing system(s) to assure correct accounting reporting
  • Supports components or portions of the GA responsibilities inclusive of General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Balance Sheet Reconciliations and Month End Close.
  • Timely performance of period-end financial close activities and meet all related customer and accounting guide expectations.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries as needed.
  • Performs balance sheet account reconciliations, including general ledger accounts and sub-ledger accounts, use of the tool Blackline.
  • Management of the reporting to Corporate through Hyperion.
  • Ensures customer needs and relationships are fulfilled and enhanced through proactive involvement and interaction.
  • Handle accounting policy and procedure inquiries, ad hoc reporting and analysis requests
  • Serves in a liaison role with the EMEA Finance departments.
  • Supports vital financial applications.
  • Maintains complete and accurate standard operating procedures and supports control documentation requirements (SOX) where required.
  • Supports requests from external and internal auditors as well as various groups companywide.

Skills Required:
  • Accuracy is required in covering all aspects of the role.
  • Proactivity to drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact at various levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Excel.
  • Solid understanding of ERP (SAP) - desired but not crucial.
  • Solid understanding of Hyperion - desired but not crucial.
  • Proficiency in English.

Education and Experience:
  • University or College Degree in Finance field.
  • Qualified Accountant (CA, CIMA or ACCA) is a plus/experience with Financial Statement.
  • 4-5 years of experience in accounting job roles.
  • 3-5 years previous experience in Shared Service Centre or Global Business Services.
