Operations Director

The Operations Director will oversee operational processes, personnel, and administrative functions related to the Brentwood, TN Oncology Lab. This individual will be responsible for directing the technical and non-technical operation of the clinical laboratory and ensuring personnel are proficient to perform testing and test information is recorded and reported promptly and accurately with adherence to any applicable regulations. They will also support scientific and technical objectives of the department. This individual must be dynamic and should have strong leadership and effective communication skills to inspire an engaged workforce and achieve high laboratory performance. The Operations Director will also be expected to help oversee additional management and process initiatives across the Brentwood facility.

The work schedule for this position will be: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm but required to be available if needed outside of these hours. This role will require roughly 20-25% travel.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Direct operational activities of Histology, Flow Cytometry, Cytogenetics, FISH, Molecular, Support Services.
  • Fiscal oversight of the departments, including labor, reagent, and capital expense
  • Hire, supervise, and mentor staff, and have accountability for all staff within the departments.
  • Ensure the laboratory provides market leading service levels to meet the needs of our customers and patients, including meeting thresholds for key performance indicators
  • Oversee the implementation of new methodologies, instrumentation, and quality control
  • Support business development, participate in external customer relationships, and collaborate with internal customers to meet business objectives
  • Prepare and provide presentations to external and internal customers
  • Collaborate with the medical director, technical director, QA, laboratory managers, discipline directors, other laboratory directors, and corporate operations
  • Oversee laboratory audits, with accountability to implement corrective, preventative, and effectiveness actions for findings and deficiencies
  • Oversee training, talent development and employee engagement initiatives, ensuring policies and procedures are followed
  • Keep the Site Director apprised of all relevant issues
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Stay current with technical advances in the field

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related life science is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of clinical diagnostics laboratory experience within a supervisory or management role is required.
  • Must have management experience and possess strong communication, team building and quantitative skills
  • Must be well-versed in laboratory practices (ideally, lean processes), profit and loss management, customer orientation and information technology.
  • ASCP, AMT, or any other relevant laboratory certifications are a plus
  • Prior experience in a high volume, clinical laboratory environment
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision
  • Previous experience working in an autonomous environment with a high degree of accountability
  • Strong presentation and communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
