In return, we’ll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about. Job Summary We are seeking an Aqualtics Specialist 4for ourInsourcing Solutions site located in Bethesda, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to theAqualtics Specialist 4:

• Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area. Cares for and maintains laboratory animals in accordance with Animal Welfare Act and the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as, NIH policies and Guidelines and other pertinent regulations and policies.

• Provides colony management support in multiple facilities. Maintains accurate detailed records utilizing written log sheets and computer databases regarding colony, including animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute, facility, and/or Task officials and investigators.

• Provides husbandry support for aquatic species such as fish and Xenopus frogs, and any other aquatic or semi-aquatic species that may be utilized in biomedical research.

• Performs health checks on animals and report any abnormalities to the Facility Veterinarian.

• Conduct all in-house water quality tests accurately.

• Perform preventative maintenance for Xenopus life support systems and maintains all aquatic support equipment.

• Troubleshoots aquatic support equipment and provides input and action on cause and remedy.

• Responsible for maintaining breeding stocks. Receives incoming animals and coordinates with the research staff frog transfers for usage and resting periods.

• Generates and maintains genetic line inventories and monitoring database.

• Performs technical procedures related to Xenopus species (e.g. obtaining blood and other samples, obtain xenopus sperm for in vitro fertilization, facilitate animal breeding with hormone injections and embryo collection, perform prescribed Veterinary treatments, conduct oocyte removal survivable surgery, and perform identification bead sutures).

• Assists with development of husbandry protocols as needed.

• Apply aquatic terminology to maintain effective lines of communication with fellow employees and investigators regarding colony and support duties.

• Actively interacts with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance when applicable to job description.

• Maintain all aquatic support equipment, schedules, and supply inventories in each aquatic facility.

• Works with fellow employees to ensure that all work is performed according the task Statement of Work and is carried out in the most effective and efficient manner.

• Help screen for specific mutants (primarily husbandry and organizational tasks).

The following are minimum qualifications related to theAqualtics Specialist 4position:

B.S. in Biological Sciences required. Three years’ experience working with aquatic species in a similar laboratory environment required. Must be LATG certified.
