Veteraanikeskeinen, ED-pohjainen lethal Means Safety itsemurhien ehkäisyinterventio (CDA 19-076)
Tappavien itsensä vahingoittamismenetelmien, kuten ampuma-aseiden ja lääkkeiden, käyttö lisää itsemurhariskiä.
Sellaisenaan VA/DoD:n ohjeet kohonneen itsemurhariskin omaavien henkilöiden hoitoon sisältävät suosituksia, joiden mukaan kliinikot toteuttavat interventioita tappavien itsemurhamenetelmien vähentämiseksi potilailla, joilla on todettu kohonnut itsemurhariski.
Mitään toimenpiteitä ei kuitenkaan ole kehitetty tai testattu kiireellistä hoitoa hakevien veteraanien keskuudessa - väestö, jonka riski on aiemmin tunnistettu.
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena on pilotoida kuolemaan johtavaa turvatoimea, joka on kehitetty erityisesti veteraaneille, jotka hakeutuvat hoitoon VHA:n päivystysosastoilla ja kiireellisissä hoitolaitoksissa ja joilla on todettu kohonnut itsemurhariski.

Tapaaminen VHA ED:ssä tai kiireellisen hoidon tilassa
-> 17 vuotta
- Kotiin päivystävältä (sairaalan sijaan)
- Itsemurhariski määritetään keskitasoiseksi tai korkeaksi CSRE-tulosten perusteella
- Potilas päättää tarkistaa uuden tai päivitetyn turvallisuussuunnitelman osana kliinistä hoitoaan
- Potilaan ilmoittama pääsy ampuma-aseiden ja/tai lääkkeiden käyttöön
Poissulkemiskriteerit:
- Ei voi suostua kognitiivisen heikentymisen, sairauden vaikeuden (mukaan lukien psykiatriset oireet), huume- ja/tai alkoholimyrkytystilanteen vuoksi
- Epäluotettava puhelinyhteys
- Ne, jotka kokevat tällä hetkellä suojaamatonta asunnottomuutta
