The Sr Manager, Procurement is supporting the Biosciences Division. It reports directly to the Sr Director, Procurement Partner and will be based at our Carlsbad, CA site.

How will you make an impact?

The Sr. Manager, Procurement has overall responsibility for all direct purchasing activities for the Carlsbad & Eugene sites ensuring uninterrupted global supply of direct materials and services including raw materials, and OEM finished goods and services. This position’s primary objective is to lead and develop a team of procurement professionals responsible for the acquisition of inbound materials and services on time, from approved global and regional suppliers, at the right costs, as required to support the operations and improve the organization’s profitability. Ultimately the Sr. Manager, Procurement needs to balance the objectives of maximum product availability with strategic inventory plans while driving savings.

The successful candidate will also need to ensure that the category strategy is aligned with the site objectives and works closely with Division Business Partners, Quality, Operations, R&D, and Business leaders to ensure category strategies are implemented at the site and business unit level.

The Sr. Manager, Procurement will also act as the single point of contact (SPOC) for Procurement for the Cell Biology Business Unit. In this capacity, the Sr. Manager, Procurement will ensure that Business and Procurement strategies are aligned, create & present productivity initiatives, and ensure supply across the Business Unit.

What will you do?

  • Management of the procurement operations team responsible for PO creation/placement/management and internal customer service required for all raw materials consumed in manufacturing.
  • Individual contributor performance management and development: coaching, motivating, performing employee reviews, resolving compensation, critical metric management, goal setting, and getting results.
  • Lead formalized risk mitigation programs to reduce vulnerability of supply chain interruptions.
  • Drive effective supplier management relationships focused on quality, supply assurance, and cost.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on Total Cost of Ownership models.
  • Present procurement strategies, processes, and policies to internal and external customers.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor that promotes teamwork with peers, subordinates, commercial, operations, other support functions, and suppliers while driving significant change.
  • Stay abreast of industry standard processes, current & future policies and procedures, regulatory & trade requirements, and market dynamics appropriate to function.
  • Achieve financial goals for the organization.
  • Lead and/or participate on continuous process improvement teams.
  • Serve as a site Operations Leadership team member.
  • Accountable for the multi-year procurement site execution objectives, timelines, and goals
  • Analyzes site spending and develops sourcing plans to improve the bottom line for the site in conjunction with the corporate categories
  • Demonstrates a measurable reduction in year over year costs of good sold without compromising quality and service level
  • Represent Procurement in Business Unit Leadership meetings and report critical Procurement metrics
  • Create & present productivity initiatives to Business Unit Leadership

How will you get here?

Education

  • BS in business, engineering, supply chain management, or technical oriented field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • APICS, CPSM or equivalent certification a plus.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7-10+ years of experience with increased responsibility and complexity in Purchasing, Sourcing, Planning, Supply Chain.
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Prior people management experience preferred
  • Prior program or project management and/or formal process improvement experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and effective business partnering capabilities – influence without authority

  • Technical knowledge of Life Sciences manufacturing preferred
  • High degree of comfort using the Microsoft Suite and reporting tools preferred
  • Capable of working across all functions and levels of an organization
  • Strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • Requires ability to deal with ambiguity and the corresponding capacity to make decisions or recommendations based on potentially incomplete information

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $117,000.00–$175,500.00.
