The Direct of Accounting manages all aspects of accounting operations for the Americas region.  This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the operational reporting of a growing and complex business environment, including revenue recognition, cost accounting, and balance sheet management. Lead delivery and improvement on all processes and system integrations. We are looking for a positive leader with a passion for developing people to extract their potential.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Delivering accounting and operational support across all areas of the business
  • Oversee day to day financial operations, coordinate month-end activities with the local accounting and finance teams and take ownership for the monthly reporting
  • Provide high quality reporting and analysis to be used both internally and externally
  • Provide explanations of revenue analysis, based on the multiple revenue streams and operational metrics
  • Provide analysis of the cost of sales, linked to the appropriate operational metrics and revenue
  • Provide thorough analysis of inventory and consumables on a monthly basis including working with operations to identify ways to improve waste
  • Ensure robust Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed
  • Develop systems, process and controls to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Represent Accounting & Finance at internal and external audit meetings
  • SOX sign off for business units, continual review of the appropriateness of the SOX controls as the organization grows and introduces increasing levels of automation
  • Partners with regional and global management, advising and developing global processes support reporting needs of the organization.
  • Oversees Joint Venture reporting
  • Identifies and monitors areas of operational risk and/or opportunity.
  • Coach and mentor staff to improve performance
  • Plan, perform, and implement process improvement initiatives impacting the extended Global Finance team
  • Complete ad-hoc analysis as requested by senior management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Knowledge of financial systems, Peoplesoft and Hyperion an advantage
  • Strong excel and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as strong leadership and focus
  • Influences outcomes
  • Proven record of results working with senior management in a consultative business approach
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical proficiency with financial application software is essential
  • High level of integrity and self-confidence

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in business analysis, accounting and finance.
  • Previous Life Science or Manufacturing organization experience
  • Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead multiple job areas, the ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches
  • Demonstrated experience working and managing cross-functional and cross-regional teams
  • Ability to understand complex financial and strategic business logic and support strategic decisions
