The EHS Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies and policy to ensure Environmental, Health and Safety compliance is met. The primary goal of promoting healthy & safe systems of work and a safe environment for employees and visitors within the scope of the UK legislative requirements .

A day in the Life:

  • Establish and maintain policies, practices and procedures that ensure compliance with all applicable local and corporate environmental, health and safety regulations and polices.
  • Lead the EHS team ensuring goals are set and completed aligned to the company strategy.
  • Design, develop and deliver appropriate training programs to aid management meet compliance requirements.
  • Serve as the competent appointed person to the leadership team in complex areas of EHS compliance including, but not limited to, risk management, machinery safety, COSHH, PPE, Statutory inspections, CLP, REACH
  • Provide reports to the leadership team on the status of site metrics, environmental performance and legal and corporate audits.
  • Submit EHS and EMS data into Intelex for corporate reporting purposes.
  • Lead the EHS and EMS audit program.
  • Ensure continuous profession development is maintained to best ensure competent advice is given.
  • Develop and implement well-being initiatives in conjunction with HR.
  • Conduct incident investigations in an objective, professional manner and report accordingly

Success in this role includes strong leadership skills, excellent communication, attention to detail, knowledge of EH&S regulatory requirements, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to continuous learning. Ensuring safe working practices identified and implemented promoting healthy & safe systems of work for all employees reducing risk of injury.

Education
  • Qualifications in the key risk areas e.g. Fire, working at height
  • NEBOSH Certificate
  • GCSE in English & Maths
  • A known relevant trade qualification.

Experience
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining EHS and EMS aligned to ISO standards.
  • Previous experience working in a safety role
  • Previous management/ supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of health and safety law and relevant legislation
  • Risk assessment trained.
  • Trained in the compilation of safety data sheets.
  • Fire safety trained.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • IT skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety law and relevant legislation
  • Knowledge of GMP lab working practices
  • COSHH/REACH/CLP/BPR/RoHS/Packaging/ Environment act
