Location/Division Specific Information

Will lead design and development of novel software applications in our Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Software Business Unit where we build enterprise software solutions for science and the analytical industry to run LC/IC/GC and MS instruments, process data and generate reports and results.

A day in the Life

  • Lead a team to craft, develop, deploy life sciences software applications on Kubernetes handled software platform.
  • Build data acquisition software involving control of various mass spectrometry instruments like triple Quadrupoles, Orbitrap detectors and similar. Write state machines and control software to control instruments, acquire data and process data to generate reports.
  • Participate in and guide developers to improve algorithms that process mass spectrometry acquisition data encompassing characterization of protein complexes, cancer screening and diagnostics, Pesticide screening and quantitation and similar.
  • Develop AI based algorithms for processing MS data like MS Peak Detection!
  • Mentoring and coaching junior engineers within the team. Presenting at major industry conferences (e.g. ASMS). Authoring research papers on relevant mass spectrometry data topics.
  • Together with the entire project team, ensure visibility of the project at various levels of the organization.

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Master's degree in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biology, Chemistry or similar Life Sciences; PhD preferred.

Experience

  • Around 10 years of direct experience in the field of HPLC/MS technology, primarily on the software side, either in academia or industry.
  • Proven track record of software development in C#, Python, C++, SQL Database design of medium to large databases.
  • Strong analytical acumen. Strong team spirit, extremely good with verbal and written communications in English.
  • Willingness and ability for international and domestic travel (up to 15%).
  • Lab experience with LC-MS workflows, software and systems
  • Experience with distributed/networked systems and instrument control, either from a technical or a usage perspective, would be a plus

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong and demonstrable software design, Object oriented practices, sharp and hands on coding skills in various languages like C#, C++, Python. Understanding of distributed software, ideally in scientific environments.
  • Very good knowledge of Mass Spectrometry instrumentation and data processing.
  • Solid understanding of Azure DevOps source management, Confluence for knowledge sharing, Office tools.
  • Proficiency in English as a written and spoken language; communication with clarity and precision with team members, leadership and peers
  • Basic understanding of regulations such as ISO 9001, ISO 27001, 21 CFR part 11 and Gamp5 would be an asset
  • Development experience in Thermo Fisher raw data handling is helpful.
  • Experience with developing on Cloud native architectures is helpful.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $163,100.00–$244,625.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
