How will you make an impact?

The Thermo Fisher Scientific West Hills Production Team manufactures medical diagnostic kits that are used by customers in the Transplant Diagnostics market. Our team is dynamic and fast paced, relying on teamwork, multitasking, and communication within the team and the larger organization. This is a production/ manufacturing role in a lab setting. Production staff wear lab coats plus PPE and use bench scale lab equipment, pipettes, thermal cyclers, centrifuges, etc. We are seeking an upbeat individual with good communication along with technical and operational skills to join our team.

What will you do?

  • Read, understand, and implement written SOP and work instructions.
  • Perform manufacturing/ production tasks as scheduled.
  • Handle and work with biological and chemical reagents.
  • Work with laboratory equipment including but not limited to: UV Spectrophotometer, Thermal Cycler, qPCR, robotic systems, centrifuges, multichannel pipettes, and bench scale lab equipment.
  • Work in a clean room laboratory environment with adherence to CGMP guidelines.
  • Review data and recognize and report data inconsistencies.
  • May train and assist colleagues on production tasks and procedures.
  • Initiate reports related to production nonconformances.
  • Tackle problems related to the production process.
  • Follow all safety requirements and raise issues and concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

How will you get here?

Education

  • A combination of education and experience that confer the needed manufacturing, scientific, and laboratory technical skills will be considered:
    • High School Diploma/ GED and at least two (2) years of related laboratory experience or 2 years college course work in Biotechnology, Sciences, or other technical field.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or scientific field Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of general laboratory procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Ability to perform routine tasks accurately, efficiently, and according to schedules as assigned.
  • Able to efficiently balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to train other lower-level staff in production procedures.
  • Ability to tackle problems that may come up in the department, troubleshoot, and think critically.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently work at laboratory workstation, operating equipment, low temperature freezers, and computer workstations.
  • Some lifting of objects including laboratory instrumentation of 35 pounds.
  • May handle sharps such as needles and biologic substances of human and animal origin.
  • Working conditions/physical requirements may change as required.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $19.64–$29.46.
