Director, Machine Learning Decision Intelligence – the role

In a leadership position on a fast growing team, you will have an exciting opportunity to support the embedding of decision intelligence principles across our portfolio of software products and ML models under development to help individuals, groups, and machines make better decisions.

Working with a cross functional team of data scientists, software developers, UX designers, and product managers, you will be a key strategist advising on incorporating decision intelligence discipline into our technology. You will use your hands-on experience in machine learning and analytics coupled with specific expertise in decision intelligence, behavioral science, and human-computer interaction to help IQVIA build better tools and products. As our technology and models are leveraged to make business-critical decisions on a daily basis, this role is an opportunity to affect decisions and decision-making at scale. The application of decision intelligence principles will have a strong influence on both our development strategy but also on the business processes our technology supports.

You will grow deep empathy and understanding of stakeholders and users, including not only understanding current decision-making processes and opportunities for improvement. You will also have the opportunity to influence and shape a critical mindset of our ACOE team, leading by example with deep scrutiny on decision-making processes. You will help our cross-functional teams define metrics, identify and access key data assets, and apply them to decision-making. 

Your typical activities might include: 

  • Working with a large multi-national, cross-functional team to instill best practices for decision intelligence engineering into the fabric of the organization
  • Developing deep understanding and empathy for stakeholders and users of our technology across the organization including understanding their individual and group psychological perspective, motivations, and decision responsibilities
  • Strategizing with product managers and machine learning scientists regarding data flows and decision-making
  • Assist in conducting UX research and developing UI and UX strategies to be tested and potentially implemented in our custom software applications to provide quality decision-making support
  • Determining appropriate metrics for analyzing the success or failure of various decisions and assessing algorithmic bias
  • Proactively identify and analyze complex, long-term, critical business problems that require decision-making support with research, engineering leaders and stakeholders
  • Continually researching current and emerging decision intelligence engineering practices and shaping our implementation of decision intelligence engineering discipline

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 10+ years of proven experience with increasing responsibility in a combination of relevant fields such as machine learning, analytics, human-computer-interaction, behavioral psychology  
  • Excellent formal and informal communication skills including the ability to influence others outside of own job area regarding policies, procedures, and goals
  • Knowledge of UX design and human-computer interaction, including demonstrated capability to assist with UX research and strategies as it pertains to decision making
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and to use good judgement when working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Hands-on experience in machine learning and software development, including working directly with development teams on long-term collaborative products and tools
  • Prior experience as part of a software development team
  • Prior experience working with remote teams and remote stakeholders
  • Appropriate machine learning and technical skill, including intermediate coding skill for data scientists (Python preferred)
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working in a collaborative Agile environment

  • Established professional portfolio of software and ML products that leverage decision intelligence practices
  • A track record of strong delivery on multiple simultaneous technology products
  • Knowledge of clinical domain and experience with regulated data
