The Maintenance Technician performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Uses hand and power tools. Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment. Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks to assist in the daily repair, preventative maintenance and construction of machinery and physical plant and expansion projects, including routine carpentry, masonry, electrical, heating/air-conditioning, plumbing, painting, mechanical and floor/wall coating installation. Perform scheduled inspections/repairs on all facilities systems. Examine machinery and equipment to diagnose trouble using basic mechanical tools and equipment. Disassemble machines and equipment and adjust, replace or repair broken or defective parts and pieces. Perform equipment calibration and preventative maintenance procedures as directed. Perform supply, delivery, distribution and acquisition tasks as directed. May perform waste vacuum maintenance. Assist in moving office contents within site, including furniture, files, etc. as needed. Maintain accurate records of maintenance repairs and services. May operate yard equipment such as fork lift and pick up truck including attaching and removing equipment. Respond to emergencies as needed. Provide 24-hour on-call maintenance coverage, as scheduled in rotation.

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) One to three years’ experience in general building maintenance with mechanical and construction background.
