Job Summary We are looking for a Research Specialist I  (Vascular Malformations) to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.

What you will do!

In this role, you will utilize existing quality standards and procedures to provide colony management support for aquatic species, namely Zebrafish. Duties may include general lab support, husbandry, colony management, and recordkeeping of stock and mutant lines. Additional duties might include system preventative maintenance and troubleshooting systems; monitoring lab inventories, order lab supplies, and receive supply shipments; as well as providing training and assistance to lab members. You may also be tasked with coordinating imports and exports of fish and/or embryos.

You will also assist with technical procedures related to aquatic species (e.g. obtain zebrafish sperm for cryopreservation and in vitro fertilization, facilitate animal breeding, embryo collection, embryo cleaning, staging and fixation; mutant and transgenic identification and propagation); as well as assist in performing DNA, RNA, and morpholino injections; and isolating tissue samples from adult zebrafish and genotype zebrafish tissue samples using PCR. You may also assist in performing various bench-top molecular biology procedures (e.g.  PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA purification, bacterial culture, restriction digestion, DNA ligation, Gibson assembly, mRNA isolation, reverse transcription, in vitro transcription, and in situ hybridization). Job Qualifications  

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses either an AA in Veterinary Technology; or a B.S. in either Life Sciences, animal science, or similar discipline; and have a minimum two years’ experience working in an animal research environment; plus one year of molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or similar experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experiences listed above.
