Job Summary

We are looking for a Data Scientist (Associate Scientist, Scientist, Senior Scientist) with a proven track record in complex biological data analysis with a strong focus on AI/ML applications in (pre)clinical models to join Charles River Discovery Research Services located in Kuopio, Finland. The position requires expertise in processing, statistical analysis, and visualization of data acquired in preclinical animal studies with an emphasis on data analysis from imaging modalities, such as structural, functional, and pharmacological MRI, functional ultrasound, nuclear imaging, as well as 2D image and video analysis with conventional and ML-approaches. The candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary preclinical research team and will report to Group Leader, Advanced Technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities

•    The Data Scientist will lead the execution of the data analysis phase in client-sponsored preclinical drug discovery projects in cross-functional teams. •    The Data Scientist will be responsible for the development and maintenance of efficient computational pipelines for handling of large datasets, with a focus on automation and quality control measures. •    The Data Scientist will work together with the CRL commercial teams to support client communication and participate in the generation of scientific marketing material. •    The Data Scientist is committed to continuous learning and professional development.

Qualifications

•    Master’s degree (M.Sc., M.Sc.(Tech)) or equivalent degree in biomedical engineering, medical physics, biophysics, data science or related discipline •    A minimum of two years of experience in image analysis, signals processing, and data analysis from in vivo studies (e.g., imaging, behavioral, biomarker), or from the field of medical imaging technologies. Experience in neuroscience or oncology fields is strongly preferred. •    Strong Python programming skills and capacity to implement, maintain and customize AI/ML -based solutions are required.  •    Knowledge and practical experience in handling of data from structural MRI and functional neuroimaging is strongly preferred. •    Understanding of key features of biological studies, data acquisition and experimental designs in a spectrum of preclinical assays is desired. Practical experience in preclinical animal studies beyond data analysis (managing in vivo studies, experience in data collection from in vivo imaging modalities, etc.) is advantageous.

Ability to work flexibly across projects and adapt to new priorities in a fast-paced environment. •    Collaborative team player comfortable working and communicating in a cross-functional and international environment. •    Excellent verbal and written skills in English, scientific writing skills, good presentation skills with ability to professionally communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
