Position Summary

The Director of Practical Process Improvement Business Systems implements Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Continuous Improvement Business System within the Biologicals and Chemicals Division (BCD)!

At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System is designed to coach, facilitate, and grow the continuous improvement culture throughout the organization – it’s Thermo Fisher Scientific’s path towards operational excellence! In this role, you will work closely with business leadership and sites to establish and mature the PPI System across the organization. This position partners with key collaborators to establish multi-year plans via strategy deployment tools and leading kaizen activity to enable the teams to achieve their business goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate implementation of the PPI Business System across BCD to achieve targets in growth, quality, customer satisfaction, cash flow, and productivity.
  • Develop and facilitate strategic deployment in alignment with company goals: cascade STRAP goals through to execution at the appropriate levels using X-Matrices, Parent A3s, Project A3s, and TTI Bowlers.
  • Complete large strategic cross-functional initiatives and establish/measure Key Performance/Behavioral Indicators.
  • Lead the success of productivity metrics, goal setting, and identification and execution of business-based improvement activity.
  • Utilize and coach colleagues in statistical analysis best practices, like hypothesis testing, regression analysis, Designs of Experience (DOE), Statistical Process Control (SPC), and other Six Sigma methodologies like DMAIC and DMADV to identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain a validated funnel of improvement activity with a sustainable review mechanism.
  • Develop and mature the business system leadership culture using various mentor tools and methodologies KPI Leadership, tiered daily management systems, Gemba walks, leader standard work, etc.
  • Drive continuous improvement and Standard Work.
  • Partner with business leaders to develop, standardize, and drive operating mechanisms that enhance key performance indicator transparency, accountability, and action planning to improve business performance and the culture of continuous improvement.
  • Own the Divisional PPI Steering Committee to ensure there is an active pipeline of continuous improvement projects aligned to business priorities, metrics, and results.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President/General Managers and provide linkage to strategy, cross-functional alignment, and lean leadership.
  • Improve the decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities within dedicated teams to increase autonomy and the pace of change.
  • Coach continuous improvement engagement and empowerment with our leaders, PPI practitioners, and colleagues.
  • Coach and mentor site and PPI leaders to drive improvements, standard methodology sharing, and harmonization throughout the network sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, operations, or business, with evidence of operational, leadership, or professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience working in a continuous improvement/Lean business system model across the end-to-end value stream.
  • Practical experience as a Six Sigma Black Belt with the use of statistical software, such as Minitab and/or R, as well as emerging technologies like AI models, to create and analyze technical data to drive improvements.
  • A ‘hands-on’ track record of implementing successful Continuous Improvement (CI) elements such as Lean Leadership (Daily Management, Leader Standard Work, and Gemba Walks) within and outside of operations environments.
  • Experience leading kaizen events including elements such as standard work, process design, SIPOC, strategy deployment, A3 Thinking, value-analysis/value engineering, error-proofing, material flow, Heijunka, and kanban.
  • Able to identify and deliver year-over-year results using data-based problem solving.
  • Proven record for developing, training, and coaching international teams.
  • Ability to collaborate and work optimally across a heavily matrixed environment.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity with attention to detail.
  • Strong executive presence and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence, encourage and lead change.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in New York is $145,500.00–$194,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
