Job Summary

Charles River Labs located in Newark, DE is seeking an NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) Lab Intern.

This internship will provide the opportunity to work in a production environment evaluating new applications for, and current performance of, microbial identification systems based on Mass Spectrometry, DNA Sequencing. By working directly with MDTT team members, the intern will get hands-on experience designing and executing experiments, analyzing raw data, the intern will get hands-on experience designing and executing experiments, analyzing raw data, assessing the impact of the data, and evaluating the potential effect on operational efficiencies.

Duties AND Resonsibilities  •    Assist with analysis of development and/or operations data to deduce and monitor trends.  •    Prepare samples for processing by NGS, Sanger DNA sequencing and/or MALDI instruments.  •    Organize, compile, and analyze data with an expectation to present their results.  •    Subculture bacterial and fungal isolates using aseptic technique. •    Participate in special projects in the lab when needed.  •    Understand and follow current SOPs and Work Instructions to conduct processing of customer samples. •    Learn the operations process from start to finish: receive, unpack, and log customer samples according to current SOPs. •    Aliquot and prepare reagents.  •    Perform administrative tasks and provide documentation support to the NGS lab team.  •    Perform continual maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all laboratory equipment. •    Dispose of microbe cultures, chemicals, and glass in proper waste containers. •    Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and MSDS sheets. •    Perform all other related duties as assigned. 

Job Qualifications

•    Education: Enrolled in a 2 year (technical college) or Accredited University Degree program with a focus on the Biological Sciences or related field.   •    This role requires that you are at the end of the Sophomore or Junior year.  •    Experience:  0–1-year with prior academic lab experience preferred. •    Certification/Licensure: None. •    Other: Must have ability to work in a fast paced and team-oriented work environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy required.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $20.00 USD per hr.
