The Extraction Technologist will be responsible for extracting DNA from a myriad of sample types for molecular genetics testing. The Integrated Genetics – Westborough site processes extracted DNA from peripheral blood and prenatal samples (amniotic fluid and chorionic villi) for genetic testing. A variety of molecular genetics techniques are used to include Next Generation Sequencing, real time PCR, Sanger Sequencing and Southern Blot analysis to test for specific genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy and Fragile X syndrome to name just a few. This is a great entry level opportunity to join an innovative laboratory and receive targeted one-on-one training that will help the individual grow in a career in the clinical diagnostics field.
Pay Based on Experience -- Starting @ 26.00/hour
New Grads Welcome – Full Training Provided
Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm.

Responsibilities:
Receive patient samples into the lab for extractions
Perform automated and manual DNA extractions from patient samples
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
Maintain internal documentation for all steps of the processes as outlined in SOPs
Troubleshoot assays and reagent qualification issues
Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts
Coordinate work assignments and be able to prioritize independently
Participate in a team approach to workflow management of the lab
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
Assist with processing of specimens when needed
Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
Previous clinical laboratory testing experience is not required
ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
