Director, Solutions Architect Summary

In a technology leadership position on a fast growing and innovative team, this role presents exciting opportunities for career progression. You will be responsible for shaping the overall direction for the architecture and technology practices for part of our application portfolio. Using broad technical understanding across multiple technology layers, as well as deep technical knowledge of developing distributed machine learning enabled systems, you will work with an enormous breadth and volume of data to design and develop data science applications. Involved in every stage of the product development lifecycle, you will provide supervision and ensure technical excellence in turning prototypes and ideas into well-abstracted reusable modules, building software to expose data science to business users through responsive UIs, and supporting a culture of continuous improvement. You will also have the opportunity to influence and shape the technical culture within the group through exhibiting technical leadership and mentorship responsibilities within the engineering team.

Typical activities include: 

  • Consulting senior-level stakeholders across the organization understanding business and technology needs matching the technology to the functional requirements.
  • Assessing the business impact of technical choices and keeps product owners informed about the impact of requirements on development speed
  • Ensuring smooth delivery and operation of IT services utilizing an SRE model
  • Providing input on processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems and properly communicates them
  • Providing direction, guidance, and training to IT staff
  • Continually researching current and emerging technologies and proposing changes where needed
  • Proactively helping to identify and resolve difficult technical issues.
  • Providing software architecture guidance to product development teams, assessing in place design and proposing solutions to improve it
  • Overseeing IT infrastructure, including Cloud infrastructure, on-premise clusters and CI/CD pipelines
  • Facilitating cross-collaboration and knowledge sharing between the tech leads of the applications and create an open a transparent technical culture for all developers for them to feel incentivized to pursue new ideas and innovate

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of proven technology leadership experience including multiple years of experience overseeing and managing solution architecture and hands-on development.
  • Exceptional skills communicating architecture solutions to product owners, the users and to the development teams
  • Excel in partnering with development teams in building robust solutions
  • Expert knowledge of microservices architecture and implementation (especially Kubernetes) and big data systems (especially Hadoop ecosystem)
  • Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure and cloud solutions using tools like Cognito, EKS, EC2 and their non-AWS equivalents.
  • Knowledge of SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) discipline
  • Passion for learning and integrating new technologies
  • Great teamwork, strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • Hands-on experience of coding languages, ideally Python     
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working in a collaborative Agile environment
  • Knowledge of clinical domain and experience with regulated data preferred
  • Experience with building, testing, measuring, and deploying machine learning models in production preferred
