Job Description

Summarized Purpose:Learns all aspects of environmental, health and safety programs. Assists with ensuring safe practices and regulatory compliance in all assigned facilities. Supports products, programs, action plans and services within the department.

Essential Functions and Other Job Information:

• Practices and implements good safety practices. Supports inquiry response and provides follow-up to health, safety, and environmental issues to site management.• Assists with ensuring that all licensing, permitting, or other environmental, health or safety requirements are met at assigned site and takes appropriate actions to ensure that any non-compliance issues are resolved. Advances concerns as appropriate.• Learns and maintains up to date knowledge needed to support compliance programs that ensure that procedures meet federal, state and local requirements (i.e. OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.) Assists with updating all health and safety related mandated procedures for assigned facilities.• Updates site management on new or changed regulations in a timely manner. Participates in resolving recommendations on feasible solutions and alternatives for compliance.• Ensures safe removal and disposal of hazardous/biological waste from facility on a regular basis. Maintains and monitors waste manifest system. Completes reporting forms and documents for all required regulatory agencies.• Supports the development of health and safety training programs, which may include refresher trainings as required by regulations. May assist with or conduct trainings.• Assists with regular walk-downs and monthly/annual self-assessments of assigned facilities and conducts employee health hazard exposure supervising to ensure OSHA compliance. May assist with ergonomic related issues. Makes recommendations as appropriate.• Supports management on Worker’s Compensation issues to supply information on related claims for the insurance company. Assists management in conducting work-related injury/illness investigation.• May participate in or lead Health & Safety committees, evaluate/maintain all safety equipment, coordinate fire drills and/or work with assigned site on CAP inspections or other audit related inspections (OSHA).

Conducts inspections of Fire Extinguishers, AEDs and other safety equipment as needed. Checking of eyewash, showers and restocking first aid boxes, spill kits

Facilitate Medical surveillance / vaccination. Facilitate the procurement of EHS items, e.g. evaluation of suitability of certain PPE

Submission of environmental data in Sphera

EHS promotional activities

Works with/assists vendors and outside agencies to conduct preventive maintenance and inspections.

Place orders for EHS equipment and supplies

• Travel to  multiple site locations in the surrounding area

Qualifications:Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualificationPrevious experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 2 years).

Required:Valid Drivers License requiredTravel to multiple area site locations is needed.In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Basic knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, ICAO, and other applicable regulations• Basic knowledge of worker's compensation requirements, laboratory and hazardous waste regulations to include hazardous chemical/biohazard storage and disposal regulations• Understanding of air monitoring strategies• Strong presentation skills and the ability to provide effective training• Good problem solving skills• Proven written and verbal communication skills• Good judgement and eye for business• Good digital literacy• May require familiarity with College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection process.

Working Conditions and Environment:• Work is performed in an office environment with exposure to electrical office equipment.• Occasional aims to site locations with occasional travel both domestic and international. Physical Requirements:• Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.• Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.• Frequent mobility required.• Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck.• Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.• Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.• Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.• Frequently interacts with others to acquire or relate information to diverse groups.• Works independently with little mentorship or reliance on oral or written instructions and plans work schedules to meet goals. Requires multiple periods of driven concentration.• Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task• Regular and consistent attendance
