Job Summary

We are looking for an Animal Care Technician III to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Cambridge, MA.

What you will do! •    Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. •    Provide guidance and training to new and less experienced staff in normal husbandry practices and animal receipt. •    Assist Group Lead and facility managers in room and facility audits •    Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.  •    Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site Supervisor or facility veterinarian. •    Provide simple veterinary care and treatments as assigned by veterinary technician, veterinarian or manager. •    Perform rodent euthanasia via CO2 and cervical dislocation. •    Perform microchip placement in various species (i.e. rodent, rabbit, G. Pigs)  •    Disposes of animal carcasses following established procedures. •    Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas, environments, including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use. •    Receive, inspect and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area. Read various identification systems (notches, microchips, toe clips) •    Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adhere to safety procedures. •    Performs other duties as assigned.

Who are we looking for?

A candidate that possesses a high school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required. Two or more years directly related laboratory animal care and handling experience required.Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or higher preferred; LAT eligibility and successful achievement of LAT certification within one (1) year of hire/promotion required.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
