Job Summary We are seeking a Research Assistant 1, Molecular Biology for our Skokie, Illiniois Safety Assessment site.
Basic Summary: Responsible for performing moderately complex laboratory work in collaboration with Molecular Biology departmental staff, based on protocols and in compliance with SOPs and GLP regulations. Primary responsibility will be performing assays ( DNA/RNA purification and quantitation, qPCR, qRT-PCR etc.) for validation and sample analysis studies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform simple Watson activities such as requesting and transferring of material. With guidance, drafts facility and study deviations. With guidance, performs DNA/RNA purifications, DNA/RNA quantitation using a NanoDrop Spectrophotometer, set-up qPCR/qRT-PCR reactions. With guidance, perform data analysis utilizing the QuantStudio™ Real ‑ Time PCR Software Follow plate map and create simple SA plate maps with guidance. Adhere to correct work-flow direction (primer/probe/master mix prep area to purification area to post PCR area). Record project data in accordance with GLP regulations and complete any related corrections. Set up basic laboratory equipment and instrumentation with guidance from senior technical staff. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Job Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline. Experience: At least two years related laboratory experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or contract laboratory environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure: None Other: Demonstrated analytical and problem solving capabilities. Understanding of regulatory requirements of study types assigned, as well as Testing Facility SOPs and the Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), as appropriate. Written and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations.
