Job Summary Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

Job Duties: Establish, administer and update specific EHS programs for compliane with state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, EPA Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other regulatory agencies. Provide initiatl and periodic safety and environmental training to all employees as required. Serve as a liason with occupational health provider. Maintain employee files. Inspect the facility for compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as applicable. Recommend solutions to management that address deficenecies in EHS compliance. Manage hazardous waste (RCRA) program including waste profiles, permitting, manifesting and recordkeeping and reporting. Respond to onsite spills and cleanup in accourdance with the Emergency Response Plan. Coordinate Biosafety Conducts industrial hygiene monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory chemical exposure limits and documents results of monitoring. Function as Emergency Coordinator for 24-hour incident response. Lead site Safety Committee. Investigate all injuries resulting in lost time claims and or safety violoations and property damage. Make recommendations for corrective actions. Assist staff with DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping requirements. Manage federal and state investigators to explain procedures and produce written doucmentation as proof of complaince Perform all other realted duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education:Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in EnvironmentalHealth and Safety, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, biological sciences or related discipline.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Environmental Health and Safety, perferred in a science organization,an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accpeted as satisfactory substitute for specific education and experience listed above.

Certifications/Licensure: None.

Other: Ability to interpret federal and state regulations and apply them to address compliance solutions as required. Effective writing and communication, organizational and time mangement skills. Computer skills including MS office and database managment. Ability to work with others on teams, interact with employees in constructive ways to enhance safety and compliance.
