Submission for the position: Associate Director/Director, Corp Strategy & Development - Home or office based - (Job Number: 170550)

PPD is creating a new role within our Corporate Development & Strategy team to help write the next chapter of our growth story. Our mission is to bring life-changing therapies to patients faster by bending the time and cost curve of drug development. We have sustained industry-leading top and bottom-line growth and closed numerous M&A transactions as we transitioned from a PE-backed company to a publicly listed company in 2020. The objective of this group over the next five years is to continue to deploy capital and develop disruptive innovations to support PPD’s long-term competitiveness.

This position will split time across both Corporate Development and Strategy projects (roughly 50/50 split), helping to architect those innovations and the business unit strategies, as well as evaluate inorganic activity included partnerships, minority investments and acquisitions. Acts as a partner for Corporate Development & Strategy leadership to chart M&A roadmaps, evaluate pipeline, drive due diligence, support integrations, and advise on business transformation opportunities. Delivers insights on the market and develops foresight with respect to industry evolution and transformation. Acts as a key thought leader, probing and challenging business units to productively debate strategies which are being developed. Works closely with Business Leads to execute against M&A initiatives and strategic priorities. Responsible for deal sourcing, coordinating due diligence, valuation model and driving the process to a successful close. Develop strategic rationale, conduct industry analysis and manage internal resources to test deal thesis. Provides regular presentations in various company forums including the senior leadership team. Fosters ongoing relationships and mutually beneficial partnerships with internal departments and external organizations. Manages a portfolio of strategic projects and initiatives; maintains responsibility and leadership for development of framework and approach, deliverables, timelines, and management of stakeholder relationships and expectations. Researches and utilizes market information and strategic intelligence to develop market analyses, business plans and support strategic initiatives. Works hand in hand with business unit leaders to develop competitive, sustainable, innovative strategies for BU’s Effectively drives change, challenges thinking, and ensures that the strategies put in place are the right ones to sustain long-term advantage and differentiation Supports business units with strategic analysis and insights related to inorganic solutions to achieve corporate strategic objectives.

Required Qualifications and Experience Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10 years) or equivalent and relevant combination of education, training, & experience. Bachelor’s Degree Business, Economics, Finance; MBA strongly preferred 10 years of progressive experience across service centric roles (experience in investment banking, consulting, accounting or in a corporate M&A/Strategy role is preferred)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Evidence of strong leadership and business acumen with ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously mixing long term projects with the urgency of immediate demands on operations Strong analytical and quantitative skills, must be organized, focused, and articulate, with the ability to interact confidently with Executive and Senior Management. Strong finance or strategy background with an ability to evaluate market opportunities using all available resources. Ability to build robust valuation models Quick learner – ability to grasp complex issues quickly, simplify them, and comprehensively and objectively assess decisions Proactive leader with intellectual curiosity and demonstrated strategic and tactical planning skills Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships with the most senior level executives and the capability to be impactful across levels of an organization Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills Strategic and creative thinking; distinguished written and oral communications skills Exceptional influencing and negotiating skills to establish credibility and trust with executives across the business
