Overview of the team

The Technology Solutions team provides Technology Solutions to Life Science clients across offerings ranging from CRM, Multichannel Marketing, Social Media, Content Management, Performance Management and Master Data Management solutions.  The team also provide marketing services to Life Science clients by delivering email and direct mail services as well as patient adherence solutions.

The Technology Solutions group is part of the Technology & Services team – delivering on the vision of bringing the best of IQVIA’s assets to tackle the challenges of Life Science organisations.

The Technology Solutions team are expanding to deliver the commercial ambition for the future.  The consulting members of the team are challenged with understanding client issues, designing a solution, rooted in technology to solve issues and delivering projects to a high standard.  Engagements span CRM and other technology implementations, delivery of social media projects and technology consulting engagements spanning data strategies to customer engagement operating models.

Overview of the role

The Engagement Manager (EM) role has two main key responsibilities:

leading (cross-functional) teams in the delivery of consulting and/or technology implementation projects and (ii) achieving an annual business development objective through project extensions, upselling and identification of new opportunities. In delivering, you will coordinate the design, development and build activities of technology implementation and technology consulting projects or components of larger, complex projects. In selling, you will be expected to build and maintain client relationships and identify opportunities to support our clients in achieving their commercial/operational objectives by employing IQVIA technologies and services. Responsibilities will include gathering and reviewing client requirements and driving the development of proposals and programs of work.

Overall, there are three core requirements:

  • Strategicthinking – working with account managers to decide where to play and how to win at target accounts, with what offerings and how can they be taken to clients based on a solution and problem based selling approach. An agile, innovative mindset is key in bringing together IQVIA’s products and services in meeting and exceeding client expectations.
  • Sales enablement across the sales lifecycle – from lead generation through to contract. This will cover proposal development and pitching
  • Programme management of deliveries once they have sold including working on client sites to deliver consulting and/or technology engagements across solutions and services

As an EM you are expected to provide strategic and operational direction to the technology delivery team and coordinate and manage project timelines, budget and flawless execution resulting in customer delight. This is a critical role in delivering value to our clients and ensuring that we grow the services we provide clients by leveraging all of IQVIA’s assets.

Candidates are also expected to proactively develop a broader and deeper knowledge of related consulting methodologies and the pharmaceutical market. As part of the role it is expected that the candidate will begin to develop practice specific subject matter expertise and recommend improvements and alternative solutions to resolve client problems, for example to become a specialist in data analytics or in commercial engagement in the pharmaceutical industry.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Lead cross-functional teams on both a sales and project delivery basis, running assignments ensuring efficient and effective project delivery to meet client expectations
  • Work with Account Managers to develop account plans based on issue and solution based selling
  • Balance sales and delivery efforts, typically 40:60 on average
  • Ability to manage and be accountable for multiple projects and project teams, juggle priorities and deliver on time meeting client expectations
  • Strong ability to bring structure to ambiguous situations across many pharmaceutical functional areas
  • Design and structure deliverables, workshops and presentations that are appropriate to the characteristics or needs of the audience
  • Develop relationships with senior level managers at clients to ensure successful sell-on engagements following delivery
  • Lead proposal development and contribute to the review of client requirements  
  • Remaining current on industry, client and competitive trends through the delivery of consulting engagements and participation in formal and informal learning opportunities 
  • Build, broaden and deepen strategic client relationships within the accounts in the defined (through sell deliver).
  • Ensure alignment and coordination between the different IQVIA/client touch points; ensures client insight is shared internally.

Education, skills and experience required

  • Minimum 2.1 Bachelor’s degree with moderate to in depth demonstrated related experience in industry or consulting
  • Experience in leading consulting engagements across the Life Sciences industry, ideally a mixture of the management consulting and technology areas
  • Proven experience in analytical, interpretative and problem-solving skills
  • Track record of consulting experience, methods, tools and techniques and of managing projects  
  • Preferably experience in a ‘brand-name’ consulting firm, ideally with healthcare and life sciences project experience
  • Experience in operating model design, business process design, digital strategy, multi-channel engagement, analytics and/or change management are a big plus
  • Knowledge of key issues and current developments in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries
  • Good presentation and communication skills with fluency in English (spoken and written); strong business/scientific written English
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate determination and resilience
  • Attention to detail and ability to deliver high quality work within challenging timelines
  • A commitment to working independently and collaboratively with others in and across the team
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills and ability to build credibility and influence external and internal contacts
  • Understanding of project management with proven time management and personal organisational skills
