Our PPD team has a new opening for a Software Lead - Architecture, reporting into the Technology Lead, responsible for leading and overseeing the software architecture strategy and technology direction globally. This is a remote position based in Europe.

By creating scalable architectures and effective software designs, you will have a significant impact on the future innovations in executing clinical trials. The Software Lead- Architecture has autonomy to establish best practices and develop a clear software architecture strategy aligned with the company goals. Your leadership will inspire the team to continuously innovate and improve, addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in this space. By driving continuous delivery, you will ensure that the team is always at the forefront of the latest technologies and market demands, enabling the delivery of differentiating and innovative solutions that meet the highest standards in the clinical research space.

This position combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership to design and implement scalable, efficient, and innovative software solutions. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams; including engineering, product management, and IT, to ensure that software architecture decisions are aligned with the overall technology roadmap and business needs. You’ll provide strategic guidance, leadership and mentorship to software development teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Our Software Lead- Architecture will have extensive technical expertise in software development, architecture patterns, programming languages, and frameworks to provide technical guidance and make informed architectural decisions. Using strong analytical skills, the architect will analyze complex problems and systems, identify patterns, and make informed decisions to achieve optimal software architecture solutions. He/she can effectively communicate architectural concepts, decisions, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a natural curiosity and desire to explore new technologies, methodologies, and industry trends to stay ahead of the curve and continuously improve their skills. The ability to adapt to changing technologies, project requirements, and team dynamics. He/she will have strong attention to detail to ensure that software architecture designs are accurate, comprehensive, and meet the desired specifications and requirements. Lastly, a strong sense of integrity, acting ethically and responsibly in making architectural decisions and handling sensitive information.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification (Masters’ degree or MBA preferred)
  • Previous experience in software/data architecture that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 12+ years’ experience) 
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in managing high-performing teams globally.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and translate business objectives into actionable product strategies and roadmaps.
  • In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of appropriate education, training, and/or directly related experience will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills to analyze complex problems and systems, identify patterns, and make informed decisions to achieve optimal software architecture solutions.
  • Effectively communicate architectural concepts, decisions, and recommendations.
  • Strong skills in technical documentation to effectively document software architectures, design decisions, and system components.
  • Proficiency in using data and analytics to make informed decisions, prioritize features, and measure product success.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with operational teams to gather requirements, define workflows, and deliver products that streamline operations, increase efficiency, and enhance productivity.
  • Ability to prioritize features, set release schedules, and make data-driven decisions to maximize product value and success.
  • Strong technical background with a clear understand of the underlying technologies, development processes, and industry standards to effectively communicate with engineering teams, assess feasibility, and make informed decisions.

Management Role: 

  • Directs through lower management levels.  Has responsibility for managing a function that includes multiple related departments.  In some instances, may be responsible for a functional area (as determined by executive management) and not have subordinate supervisors or employees.  May manage employees across multiple regions.
