Job Summary:

Syneos Health is looking for a talented, commercially minded and proactive attorney to join its Global Labor & Employment team.  The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent judgment and experience advising clients on labor and employment matters and managing employment litigation, claims, and disputes.  The role is office-based out of Syneos Health’s Morrisville, North Carolina headquarters. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and advice on a wide variety of labor and employment issues across the United States.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to develop, review and update employment-related policies.
  • Partner with internal business and corporate teams to evaluate and interpret laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and provide training sessions and materials.
  • Manage employment litigation, claims and disputes and advise/partner with internal business clients on all areas of employment law to include benefits and immigration matters.

·        Manage external counsel in accordance with outside counsel guidelines, within specified budgetary limits, and in line with business and legal management’s expectations.

·        Work collaboratively across the Legal department, including the Company’s global team of regional-based attorneys, to build consensus on process improvements and drive corporate legal projects to completion.

·        Must be able to work under tight deadlines and interact with lawyers and business teams and human resources globally.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

·        J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and admission to, and good standing with, a state bar

·        3+ years of experience in a law firm or in-house legal department

·        Knowledge of and experience with key federal and state employment laws and regulations including Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, EEO laws, wage and hour laws, background check laws and other federal, state and local laws affecting the employer-employee relationship.  Familiarity with immigration and benefits laws preferred.

·        Experience litigating employment-related lawsuits and agency charges. 

·        Demonstrated & successful ability to integrate with and provide strategic counsel in a highly regulated environment.

·        Industry experience in a healthcare or life sciences company, such as a CRO, biotech, or pharmaceutical drug development company preferred but not required.

·        Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally with all levels of management regarding complex employment legal issues.

·        Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities and work with various stakeholders.

·        Ability to partner with clients to achieve results that make business sense, including identifying opportunities for effective process improvements.

·        Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.

·        Ability to collaborate with colleagues and take a business-oriented approach while identifying and balancing risks and providing succinct, accurate and pragmatic advice.

·        Exceptional analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment skills.

·        Independent judgment, attention to detail, a desire to learn, and an ability to take on and prioritize a wide variety of complex matters while meeting tight deadlines.

·        Can-do attitude, ability to work under pressure and to manage the expectations of clients.

·        Creative problem-solving ability with a focus on achieving client-friendly solutions while managing company risk.

·        Sense of humor is a plus.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $146,000 to $178,600.  The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position.  Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
