Brief role summary:

Reporting to the Site Leader the Operations Manager will lead the production team, maintenance and site based technical team at the East Grinstead site.  Working collaboratively with EHS, QA, Supply chain and other support functions they will ensure the East Grinstead sites can manufacture, test, and distribute products, thereby delivering an exceptional customer experience.  The East Grinstead site operates seven days per week.

The East Grinstead Site supports annual revenue of >$30M per annum.

Responsibilities:

Safety:

  • Promote a safety-first culture ensuring:
    • All accidents and incidents are reported in timely manner, thoroughly investigated and actions implemented to prevent re-occurrence.
    • Staff actively participate in hazard observation scheme.
    • Completion of workplace inspections working closely with departmental EHS representative
    • Trained staff in place to support key EHS responsibilities including EHS representative, Fire Warden, First Aiders, Spill Responder & Incident Controller
  • Safe systems of work are in place for all planned and unplanned tasks through the use of risk assessments, with control measures built in through engineering controls, PPE requirements, or procedural controls.

Quality:

  • Ensure the site operates within the Quality Management System
  • Owns and drives a culture of “Right First Time with the customer in mind” working collaboratively with the Quality Assurance teams to deliver sustained Right first Time Improvements
  • Site is maintained audit ready for both regulatory, internal and customer audits
  • Ensure that all staff are adequately trained.

Customer Service:

  • Site Capacity is known & understood and always able to support commercial ambition MBD has for Sensititre
  • Accountable for ensuring a flexible, trained and agile team is fully in place and in use by ensuring that all staff are both trained and competent along with sufficient level of cross training to support business demands and training status is maintained / refreshed where required.
  • Drive superior performance through a robust & repeatable tiered accountability process and use of problem solving tools.
  • Elevate performance each and every day through their personal actions & commitment, effective collaboration with their wider peer group and coaching of their teams.

Cost:

  • Oversees and manages spend within the site to meet budgetary and financial objectives with a budgetary spend of approximately £2M
  • Ensure a robust improvement program is in place to drive KPI improvement in safety, quality, customer & cost
  • Develop & gain business approval for capital investment to drive improvements in both compliance, business and productivity.

People:

  • Lead a team of approximately 65 colleagues both directly (4direct reports) and through others:
    • Production Team 50FTEs
    • Technical Support Team  - 1 direct report who leads a team of 10scientists
    • Engineering Team  - 1direct report who leads a team of 2 muti-skilled engineers
    • Instrument Services Team – 3FTEs
  • Mentor and develop for superior performance
  • Continuous Improvement Culture embedded and driven
  • Performs all aspects of their role in a safe & compliant manner in line with the TFS consistent with the Code of Conduct and the 4i Values.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of health and safety legislation and its practical application in the workplace backed up by IOSH qualification.
  • Working knowledge of GMP & Quality Management Systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working within medical device or pharmaceutical organization
