Minimum Education for No-Experience Entry Level
• ABET accredited MS in CompSci, CompEng, or SWE with relevant ABET accredited BS
• PhD in Software Engineering with relevant thesis

Expected Prior Experience

• 4+ SWE internships (PhD Software Engineering w/ relevant thesis & no FTE experience)
• 5+ SWE internships (PhD CompSci or CompEng w/ relevant ABET BS & no FTE experience)

Prerequisite Abilities
• All 130-level engineer developmental goals met and practiced consistently
• Solid understanding of and experience using the programming languages and technologies used by the team
• Solid understanding of the business domain/context
• Subject matter expertise in 1+ technical aspect
• Satisfactory verbal and written communication skills"

Responsibilities
• Isolate problems related to tertiary systems that interact with the product the team develops
• Help optimize system performance
• Take accountability for complex tasks and complete them in spite of roadblocks and leveraging help from others as needed
• Contribute to stable, reliable product development work with limited supervision after being given an objective
• Suggest areas of work for themselves and their team
• Lead a small team to implement a project as skill, perspective, and familiarity with teammate abilities grow
• Over time, lead projects of increasing complexity and impact
• Stay abreast of technical changes on partner teams
• Research current and emerging industry tools and techniques, and share these findings with colleagues
• Begin to take a lead role on cross-team exercises, including DevOps incident management bridges
• Contribute to Level of Effort assessments for new work
• Contribute to documentation for product architecture and infosec compliance
• Apply SDLC processes consistently every day
• Perform code reviews for work submitted by other engineers

Autonomy
• Work is reviewed periodically during assignments and at major milestones to compliance and completeness vs requirements

Effect of Errors & Risk Tolerance
• Delay overall product schedule
• Reduce client satisfaction
• Resolution requires moderate expenditure from immediate or adjacent team/group

Professional Development Goals in Level
• Begin to emerge as the go-to person relied on by a manager or team lead for some aspect of implementation
• Become familiar working in all aspects of a product beyond the employee's primary discipline (SDET, SRE, SWE, etc)
• Become increasingly independent
• Begin demonstrating initiative beyond checking off tasks on a list
• Attend public speaking training
• Begin to practice technical writing and presentation skills including presentations to peers, stakeholders, and leaders
• Increase consistency, reliability, and quality of engineering outcomes
• Begin to participate in the development of team/group goals
• Gain technical design experience on a small-to-medium project
• Demonstrate ability to sustain and leverage existing relationships while developing new relationships
• Meet regularly with a 150+ level engineer mentor
• Mentor at least one 130-level engineer
