Job Description

Job Title: Accountant II

Location: Newport

Shift: Mon- Fri 8:30am - 4:30pm

Position Summary:

The Management Accountant will be required to review and maintain the standard costs for the Newport ThermoFisher site – this will include, the management of projects to confirm current standards as well as ensuring ERP data and master records are kept up to date. In addition, the Management Accountant will be an integral part of the wider Finance team, supporting the month end and budgeting process as required and undertaking ad hoc work when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with TMO internal Financial Procedures and Policies.
  • Working with other departments, establish standard costs and update them as appropriate
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly accounting reports for submission to management
  • Classify costs accurately, review inventory reserves and obsolescence provisions
  • Generate PPV and Capitalised Variance reports and analyse findings
  • Review rates of depreciation, labour and overhead regularly
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and review JEs carefully for anomalies and other inconsistencies
  • Help maintain and review the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets
  • Review raw material costs, including cost/benefit analysis for switching vendors
  • Working with the PPI Manager, help identify and implement Practical Operational Improvements
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested to achieve the overall purpose of the role in support of company objectives
  • Posting of nominal ledger journals including those prepared by the Management Accountant i.e.
    • Fixed Assets
    • Stock
    • Manufacturing Variances
  • Accrual and prepayment control accounts
  • Preparation of yearend Audit File, including preparation of schedules for input onto the Company ERP platform for Y/E Financial Accounts
  • Preparation and submission of returns to National Statistics Office

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • AAT qualified and to be working towards ACCA (Certified Accountant), QBE considered
  • IT literate and experienced in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Strong organisational skills, self-disciplined in meeting deadlines
  • Significant cost accounting experience, including PPVs and capitalized variances – preferably in a high volume production environment
  • Experience with manufacturing standard costs, including cost benefits analysis

Some travel may be required between Newport and other TMO sites for training courses, but significant travel away from Newport on a routine basis is not expected.
