Senior Director, Operations – Transplant Diagnostics

The Transplant Diagnostics Division at Thermo Fisher Scientific is a leading provider of innovative solutions and services tailored specifically for the transplant industry. As we continue to grow and expand, we are seeking a multifaceted and experienced Senior Director to lead and scale our Operations and site capabilities.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Division President, the Senior Director Operations is a member of the division leadership team and interacts with partners across the organization. This important role leads teams responsible for Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and PPI for the division and also serves as site leader for the West Hills facility. The leader will drive an intense focus on meeting customer needs in a cGMP environment, leading and ensuring all functions are performing at peak efficiency with proper internal communication and interfaces, while ensuring delivery of high-quality products in compliance with all applicable cGMP manufacturing regulations.

The Senior Director will build and lead a lead an efficient operation, drive a great site experience, align capabilities to scale against customer demand through a clear vision and ensure the team executes effectively. The leader motivates team members toward the common goal, delivers perfect quality products to our customers on-time at lowest cost and inventory while partnering with peers to ensure quality and safety are achieved.

What You’ll Do:
  • Drive the overall effectiveness of the Operations leadership team capabilities by providing effective leadership to achieve operations and supply chain goals in alignment with overall division strategies.
  • Develop specific short-term and long-term goals and plans with supporting budget requests and financial estimates, including development and execution of a site master plan.
  • Lead and grow impactful teams to ensure operating effectiveness; leverage team capabilities that drive ownership and accountability and work to break down barriers that impede business success.
  • Work with internal team to ensure production goals are achieved and assure standards are incompliance with all GMP, ISO, FDA, OSHA and other manufacturing and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures quality systems are effectively maintained to achieve strong levels of GMP/ISO/FDA/OSHA compliance.
  • Meet financial targets, key performance metrics and benchmarks including those related to manufacturing output, OTIF, efficiency, operating income, revenue, margins, and inventory.
  • Build and leverage relationships with cross functional division leadership to ensure alignment with evolving customer requirements to deliver high-quality products.
  • Lead with composure and a focus to detail, results orientated and profitability mentality along with the ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide appropriate direction and support to all levels of the department, growing the talent, experience, and engagement of employees.
  • Create and manage annual Operations budgets, including capital expenditures and staffing.
  • Drive the Practical Process Improvement (PPI) business system to continually identify and review priorities, assess efficiency and implement changes as needed.
  • Responsible for all facility and infrastructure systems supporting all site operations and long-term planning to support business growth.

What You Bring:

B.S. Degree in Business, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or other scientific/technical discipline required; advanced degree such as MBA or master’s is a plus.

Considerable experience in leading manufacturing organizations in a GMP facility; site leadership experience preferred.

10+ years of work experience in Manufacturing, with at least 5 years in Supply Chain (customer service, distribution, and logistics, planning.).

Strong people leadership skills and depth leading directly and by influence in a matrixed organization.

Effective time management and organization skills to handle a variety of activities simultaneously.

Strong combination of verbal and written communication skills to internal and external groups.

Specific experience in scaling or transforming a manufacturing organization, including implementing continuous improvement programs (LEAN, Six Sigma, etc.).

Have partnered with a senior leadership team in an environment of consistent growth and changing business cultures.

Prior success in scaling operational capabilities in a high growth environment.

Understanding and ability to adhere to established quality standards and regulatory compliance requirements for medical device or diagnostics.

A strong balance of analytical skills and action orientation to drive sustaining results with intensity, at times demonstrating the confidence, conviction, and teamwork to innovate new strategies and methodologies.

Have solid MRP system experience; SAP experience is a plus.

Strong financial and business acumen.

Travel up to 10% including some international travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $230,000.00–$280,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
