Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our team as a Scientist II, Manufacturing Sciences. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a real-world impact by executing procedures, protocols, and processes in support of department projects. You will work closely with the functional leader, direct manager, and Senior members of the team to ensure flawless execution of assay protocols, product performance, characterization studies, stability studies, manufacturing processes, and test methods. Your work will be critical to the success of the company in protecting revenue through right first time execution of non-conformances, investigations, CAPAs, and process improvements.

Location: Middletown, VA

Responsibilities:

  • Perform assay protocols, conduct product performance evaluations, and carry out characterization studies
  • Support manufacturing processes and test methods
  • Conduct critical data analysis, succinct presentation, and report preparation
  • Participate in non-conformances, investigations, CAPAs, and process improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and optimize microbiological assays, processes, and products
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in microbiology research and technology
  • Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve clinical diagnostic reagents' manufacturing processes and techniques
  • Follow safety, quality, and training procedures and regulations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, Biology, or a related field (Master's degree or PhD preferred)
  • 2-3 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or food industry setting
  • Proficiency in microbiological techniques such as aseptic technique, microscopy, culturing, and identification of microorganisms
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards (e.g., cGMP, GLP, ISO, and FDA standards)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team setting
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis software
