Thermo Fisher Scientific is HIRING for our NEW distribution center in Greencastle, located off of exit 3 on interstate 81.  This new innovative facility will provide additional distribution capacity for finished goods on the East Coast and help build a seamless supply chain to improve our customer experience. Basic Function:

The Logistics Associate is responsible for ensuring all daily domestic & international shipment requirements are completed on-time and that all necessary documentation is filled out accurately and completely to meet all regulatory and shipment requirements. This individual communicates with Thermo Fisher Scientific transportation service providers and other distribution center personnel to coordinate these deliveries. There is also communication with the Customer Service organization to gain clarity on shipment requirements and rescheduling of open orders. Problem resolution and insurance claims processing may also be part of this job function.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completes the daily processing of all international shipping documents to ensure on-time shipments to all destinations.
  • Suggests areas for cost savings and process improvements related to transportation, packaging, and supply chain operations.
  • Works with contract and third-party transportation service providers to ensure on-time delivery performance.
  • Coordinate the deliveries of material from outside warehouses to be consolidated with freight from this facility.
  • Follows the terms included in Letters of Credit to ensure on-time banking and processing of these orders. Ability to follow detailed instructions for export is critical.
  • Takes assigned training to stay in compliance with all transportation and hazardous materials regulations.

  • Must be able quickly prioritize daily work activities to ensure key shipping requirements are aligned and accomplished.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate transportation requirements to freight providers and with the customer support organization through both verbal and written communication.
  • Build good working relationships with transportation suppliers and external departments.

Education and Experience:

One to two years of related training and/or experience in freight forwarding or transportation-related business operations is ideal, but not required for this position. Minimum of a high-school certificate is required and college degreed persons will be considered for this position.

Reasoning:

Ability to solve practical problems related to transportation activities and deal with a variety of situations where there is no clear precedent for action. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. This person will use their analytical skills to identify where deviations from standard procedures are warranted and to support one’s position for corrective action. Must be able to work and reason in a fast-paced, deadline-based environment with a high degree of accuracy and accomplishment. Extra hours may be required to stay until all daily shipment paperwork is completed, especially at the quarter-end of each accounting period.

Other Knowledge:

Requires good oral and written presentation skills to communicate ideas and procedures to management and peers. Competency in Word, Excel, SAP and Oracle E1 applications is a plus.

Supervision Received:

Depending on the job level of this position, this person may work independently on daily assignments, or with some supervision from their direct supervisor or assigned co-worker for training.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. They will also daily walk up and down stairs to check the completeness of the packages being assembled in the warehouse for shipment. The individual may be required to move boxes up to 30 lbs. in weight. They will spend considerable time at a computer keyboard, composing shipping paperwork, spreadsheets, and handling e-mail.

Job duties are performed in an office environment using standard equipment, such a computer, photocopier, and telephone. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
