How will you make an impact?

Responsible for managing the maintenance department assuring facility and utility readiness of production environment to support Right First Time and On Time Delivery performance of the site.  Maintain suitable upkeep of property, office, utilities and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities, conforming to defined cGMP, Safety and Environmental safety regulations.

What will you do?

  • Manage the maintenance of plant, property and facility assets.
  • Directly supervise the Facility and Sanitation Supervisory positions.
  • Develop and improve preventative maintenance methods for existing and new equipment.
  • Provide troubleshooting leadership and technical support for operation issues that may be related to property, plant and office facilities and/or utilities.  Be on call for major maintenance problems. 
  • Represent Maintenance Key Performance Indicators on a weekly basis.
  • Generate weekly reports for the Director of Engineering.
  • Support Quality department by addressing and progressing assigned Deviation Reports (DRs) and Corrective Action Preventative Actions (CAPAs) and assisting during regulatory audits.  Maintain facility, equipment and records to operate within validated guidelines.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and ensure departmental EHS training, DRs and CAPAs are completed on time. Act as Fire Chief.  Monitor safe working practices. Seek energy saving opportunities.
  • Resolve equipment, workforce and training needs to coordinate maintenance activities in order to support changing business needs.
  • Participate in engineering project planning meetings.
  • Leverage Performance Management Process to ensure department and site goals are achieved.
  • Prepare and track maintenance budgets for departments under management control.
  • Manage all external contracts for maintenance facility services (e.g. laundry, security, snow removal, utilities etc.).
  • Recommend capital equipment 5 year plan and prepares justifications to purchase.
  • Select, develop and evaluate staff to ensure the efficient operation of the maintenance function. Work with and advises staff on administrative policies and procedures.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Minimum required education: Bachelor Degree Science, Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years’ previous experience in maintenance related activities within a manufacturing environment (preferably pharmaceutical manufacturing).
  • Minimum 5 years’ previous supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Sound knowledge of Utility systems (PW, CDA, DC, HVAC, APUs, Chillers/Loop, Boilers/Steam/Condensate, SCADA, BAS, Electrical, Back Up Generator, Plumbing, etc), Processing systems (FBDs, HSGs, Coaters, etc.) and Life Safety Systems.  
  • Ability to be on call for major maintenance problems.
  • Strong leadership and team building skills. 
  • Good working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Proven problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment quickly and easily.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications. 
  • Proficiency with the English language.

  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives.
  • Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. 
  • Effectively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.).
  • Be client and patient conscious at all times.
  • Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving.
  • Model positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working.
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures.
  • Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. 
  • Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.   

Physical Requirements:

  • Light physical effort and fatigue.
  • Walks, sits or stands for limited periods.
  • May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment.
  • Lifts light items for limited duration.
  • Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. 
  • There may be exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights.
  • Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator occasionally.
