Location/Division

In the Semiconductor business unit within the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) we enable customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase productivity, and ultimately change the world. The Semi business unit designs, manufactures, and supports a broad range of high-performance microscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in electronics markets and our worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to our customers' pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.

Make an Impact!

As an Application Development Engineer, one will be responsible for crafting efficient solutions for customers to make critical process decisions with the use of finely crafted workflows and automation software on Thermo Fisher Scientific’s dual beam systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Aid in Developing, characterize, and document workflows or applications that automate small and wafer dual beam microscope functionality for semiconductor customers.

Use automated software for scanning electron microscope applications (i.e. AutoTEM/iFast/Python/Machine Learning).

Create customer training material and collaborate with team to translate customer needs into workable solutions.

Provide technical support to assist with all phases of the sales cycle.

Cultivate positive customer relationships, clearly communicate customer needs/requirements to key partners, giving in-depth technical presentations, and assisting in applications development.

Provide customer support and applications training after instrument installation.

Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing/development groups on future product developments.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree  (technical engineering, engineering, sciences, or related field)
  • Minimum of 0-1 years of experience in a research environment with recent experience applying small and/or wafer DualBeam technology.
  • Experience with TEM sample prep or Cross-sectional workflows with DualBeam is preferred.
  • Experience with Machine Learning techniques is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Clear interpersonal skills, both written and verbal targeted for a diverse audience is essential to success in this role.
  • Excellent customer interfacing skills.
  • Proven track record to interact with cross - functional and cross - cultural teams.
  • Ability to travel both domestically internationally up to 25%; possession of a valid passport is suggested.
