We are seeking a Laboratory Animal Technician for our Insourcing Solutions site located Bethesda, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to the Laboratory Animal Technician position:

•Reviews, comprehends and complies with all SOP's and quality assurance standards.

•Maintains laboratory animals in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

•Provides support to multiple ASP's running concurrently at varying phases.

•Performs technical support to assist in ASP related activities involving rodents and old world NHPs.

•Must have experience in animal handling, restraint, weighing, blood draw, inoculation, injection, induction, catheter placement.

•Must have experience to monitor the recovery of anesthetized animals, animal identification and husbandry procedures.

•Practice universal precautions appropriate to different levels of ABSL.

•Basic knowledge of technical animal injection skills ie, IP, IM and IV injections, orbital sinus bleeds, tail vein injections and cardiac bleeds.

•Preparing cylindars and packing cylindars with all necessary supplies as per isolator.

•Packaging feed and bedding.

•Autoclaving cylindars.

•Cleaning isolator equipment and sterilizing isolator equipment.

•Rebuilding isolators and adding caging equipment.

•Coordinating with courier and tech to sterilize equipment.

•Exiting samples collected by lab RSS

•Performing tech requests such as fecal and blood collection, euthanasia, anesthesia, injection, breeding, weaning, and other requests as needed.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Laboratory Animal Technician position:

•Education: H.S. Diploma or GED required. BS preferred.

•Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience working in a lab animal environment to include technical procedures with rodents and NHP required. Experience with Gnotobiotic mice preferred.

•Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) required. LAT preferred.
