We are seeking an Associate Research Scientist for our Safety Assessment site located in Durham, NC.

 

This position will serve as Team Leader responsible for the technical and functional oversight of the Cryogenic-Electron Microscopy lab, which includes a 200kV transmission electron microscope (JEOL JEM-2100+) and associated equipment in the adjacent BSL-2 laboratory.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  Oversee the upfit and implementation of the lab and ensure that all systems are in place to receive BSL-2 samples, perform BSL-2 studies, and maintain a BSL-2 lab with all appropriate documentation Work closely with Client Services to meet and provide information to Sponsors, to initiate studies, and to provide on-time deliverables Collaborate with the System Administrator to validate the imaging software of the microscope in order to perform GLP studies Act as the Study Director for studies Receive unfixed samples, prepare cryo preps of samples, image samples on the cryo-EM, interpret results, and prepare reports for the sponsor Train current EM staff on the preparation and scoping of cryo-EM samples Maintain and perform routine maintenance of the microscope (e.g., changing LaB6 filament) and other laboratory equipment Perform other Electron Microscopy and laboratory tasks Assist management in promoting the service through marketing initiatives, and actively participate in strategy regarding future EM initiatives and capabilities Job Qualifications

  This position requires an expert scientist with a deep theoretical and technical understanding of cryo-EM, and related experience in the preparation, scoping, and analysis of Adeno-associated virus (AAV).     Education: BS or equivalent in biology or related discipline. Related Master's degree (M.S./M.A.) or PhD/DVM preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience in Cryo-Electron Microscopy An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted
