Research Associate I - Cell Engineering

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Research Associate I, Cell Engineering for our Discovery site located in South San Francisco. 

This position will be involved in all aspects of studies supporting the Cell Engineering group. The position is hands-on, working primarily in a laboratory setting in close cooperation with and under the guidance of more senior staff members in a fast-paced environment where a commitment to teamwork, quality data and speed is essential.

Successful candidates in this position will:

  • Perform and learn to troubleshoot laboratory experiments of assigned client programs and technology development projects
  • Ability to learn new techniques in flow cytometry (FACS), protein biochemistry analytics, and cell-based assay development.
  • Perform laboratory upkeep tasks such as but not limited to autoclaving glassware, receiving/processing shipments, and restocking lab benches.
  • Perform non-routine procedures with guidance of senior staff
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret data with guidance from senior staff
  • Ensure recorded data is accurate, complete and in appropriate order to meet protocols and client expectations.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize computer programs as needed.
  • Flexible and eager to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Identify and report difficulties with ongoing work to senior staff.
  • May attend training courses to enhance job and professional skills.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the ResearchAssociate I position.

  • Education:  Bachelor’s Degree (B.S./B.A) or equivalent in a scientific related discipline.
  • Experience:  No minimum related laboratory experience required. 
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure:  None.
  • Other:  Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Understanding of regulatory requirements of study types assigned, as well as Testing Facility BOPs, as appropriate. Written and verbal communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines under minimal direction. Proficiency in the use of standard software including Microsoft® Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc. and with standard laboratory calculations. Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, and/or basic molecular biology is preferred.

The pay range for this position is $28.00-$30.00  . Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
