Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Instructional Coordinator  to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Bethesda, MD.  

As the  Instructional Coordinator, you will develop, deliver, conduct, and report technical skills training programs, and maintain training areas, learning laboratory and training animal colony in accordance with facility SOPs, Charles River policy and applicable Federal regulations.

Additional responsibilities include: •    Conduct New Employee Orientation, AALAS certification training at each level, personal and professional development training, and NIH/Charles River required training. •    Coordinate with the Technical Trainers to develop schedules based on start dates, annual refresher dates, needs, etc. •    Develop/continue TASK forms across each billing labor category position, to include knowledge quizzes and job aides. •    Formulate teaching outlines and determine appropriate instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, demonstrations, meetings, and workshops. •    Select and/or develop appropriate teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works. •    Assess and documents staff performance to measure progression in skills and knowledge.   •    Manage and maintain entry of employee training completion dates/status into records, electronic files and Charles River CAMPUS. •    Set up CAMPUS accounts for new staff, creates and assigns lesson plans, uploads training documentation for sessions completed outside of their CAMPUS account. •    Partner on QA/QC needs to include identifying trends and opportunities for refinement in processes and partner with technical trainers on implementation.  •    Conduct assessments on staff following the proficiency stage to ensure continued compliance. Provide immediate corrections as needed, and compile data identifying root cause contributors.  •    Identify and make recommendations to SOPs and schedule annual SOP refreshers on identified topics. •    In support of technical training, perform technical services to include handling and restraint, ear notching, tagging, breeding methodology, weaning, and sexing, tissue and blood collection, injections, tail snips, pain scoring/alleviation measures, surgical pack preparation, surgical preparation, health observations, sterilization techniques, and drug dosage calculation. •    Maintain the required skill sets and SOP task procedures to ensure continual proficiency, i.e., continual practicing, refresher training and evaluation.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Associate degree or Certificate Program (e.g., US Army – Animal Care Specialist) in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, Zoology or equivalent college level program highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years lab animal husbandry and technical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a training role with a focus on training with various lab animal species on husbandry and technical procedures,
  • AALAS training, personnel development, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the development and design of training methods, aides, exercises, tools, etc. in support of training staff.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of the specific education and experience listed above.
  • AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG) required.

The hourly range for this position is $44 to $48 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
