Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with large-scale electronic health record databases and conduct pragmatic clinical studies across a range of therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will provide expertise in statistical methodologies and project management support for standard and custom studies including but not limited to prospective non-interventional/phase IV, predictive analytics, segmentations, burden of illness, cost effectiveness analysis, prevalence studies. The senior consultant statistician role is office-based in either Kirkland (QC) or Mississauga (ON), primarily supporting the Canadian RWS team, although there may be occasion to support the Commercial Effectiveness Services (CES) and other teams. Due to COVID-19 all work is currently home-based.

Project responsibilities

  • Contribute to statistical and data management aspects of project proposals and protocols
  • Provide time estimates for statistical aspects of proposed studies
  • Ensure service and quality meet agreed upon timelines and deliverables in study contract
  • Provide recommendations and statistical input for development of research plans, protocols and statistical analysis plans to answer clients research questions
  • Identify appropriate data sources to meet project needs from internal IQVIA data assets, external observational databases and prospective data collection options
  • Define statistical design and methodologies including sample size estimates
  • Oversee statistical analyses of study outcomes and interpretation of results
  • Contribute to the final analysis report (including production of summary tables and figures) and disseminate the information to the rest of the project team
  • Provide statistical input to conference presentations and manuscripts for peer-review as needed
  • Work on projects where independent judgment is used within generally defined procedures and practices
  • Ensure quality in all statistical deliverables including performing quality tasks for other statistical team members/studies

Client liaison responsibilities

  • Provide statistical consulting services to RWS team and external clients, including bid defense
  • Present results to external clients

Internal initiatives

  • Participate in internal initiatives e.g. knowledge sharing
  • Identify new opportunities for standard reports/procedures and for value-added analytics

Person specification

Expected criteria

  • MSc in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics or related subject, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in a broad range of statistical methodologies
  • Proficient SAS programming skills
  • Experience in at least two of the following:
    • Design, execution, analysis and interpretation of prospective studies including dataset specification and management
    • Health economic evaluations such as cost effective and cost utility analyses as well as conducting meta-analysis, network meta-analysis and utility analysis
    • Advanced statistical modelling including longitudinal data analysis and mixed models
  • Evidence of working with large observational datasets
  • Strong project documentation
  • Project management proficiency including meeting deadlines within forecasted hours
  • Client facing consultancy skills including engagement of clinical experts/key opinion leaders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; record of building and maintaining strong working relationships; demonstrated ability to explain novel and standard methods, both to fellow statisticians and to scientific and clinical colleagues written and orally
  • Self-motivated with initiative to work independently
  • Strong time management skills; able to effectively organise and manage a variety of tasks across different projects
  • Publication record in peer-reviewed journals

Desired criteria

  • PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics or related subject
  • Min 5 years’ experience in biostatistics
  • Programming skills in applications/languages such as R, Stata, Python, VB, SQL
  • Demonstrated experience improving and automating business processes through the application of technology
  • Experience with IQVIA data assets, CIHI, IC/ES or RAMQ data
  • Line management and/or mentoring capabilities
